Selling my wife on "Apollo"

I absolutely love this name for our first born but she says she hates it. I even l paired it with her father’s name as the middle name and still no luck.

Any suggestions on how to sway her to get an “[name]Apollo[/name] [name]Israel[/name]” approval for a late February arrival?

I love [name]Apollo[/name], but if your wife doesn’t like it, then she doesn’t like it. But you could call the baby “[name]Paul[/name]” as a nickname if [name]Apollo[/name] is too out there for her taste.

Why doesn’t she like it? Is it the sound, or the meaning?

What is it that you love about [name]Apollo[/name]? Is it the sound, or the mythology? If the former, maybe [name]Paolo[/name] or [name]Pablo[/name]? If the latter, [name]Helios[/name] might be a little less in-your-face sun god.

I’m an overall fan of the name - mostly because [name]Apollo[/name] was always a favorite god of mine in mythology, but also because it is unique and a strong sounding name with an element of timelessness behind it. Finally, I love [name]Apollo[/name] [name]Creed[/name], [name]Rocky[/name]'s best friend from the films.

My wife is on a veto-kick of sorts on the name so I try not to push it (though i REALLLY like it).

You can’t Make her love it, but it is a nice name, and fairly well-known as far as mythology goes. I adore the suggestion of using the nickname [name]Paul[/name] to try to sell how easy it could be for your son to wear. You both may still have to compromise, but perhaps she’d let you use it as a middle name? Good luck! =]

You can’t Make her love it, but it is a nice name, and fairly well-known and easily pronounced as far as mythology goes. If she wanted another reference besides the [name]Rocky[/name] movie, you could also remind her of the Olympan skater [name]Apolo[/name] Ohno. I really agree with the suggestion of using the nickname “[name]Paul[/name]” to try to sell how easy it could be for your son to wear. You both may still have to compromise in the end, but perhaps she’d let you use it as a middle name? Good luck! =]

[name]Creed[/name] could be a really strong middle name, and it has a great meaning.
[name]Cassius[/name] or [name]Clay[/name] for [name]Muhammed[/name] [name]Ali[/name]… [name]Adrian[/name] is cool for a boy (I know it’s a weird way to give a nod to [name]Rocky[/name]) or [name]Hadrian[/name] for something more ancient.
Sorry you’re at odds over names. You could try getting her to watch Battlestar Galactica which has a cute lead character named [name]Apollo[/name]… she might come around?

I love [name]Emma[/name]'s suggestion, watch Battlestar Galactia!

I think [name]Apollo[/name] is a beautiful name, but if your wife doesn’t like it, it may be tricky! What kind of names does she like?

[name]Apollo[/name] is a very unique, yet attractive name!

Maybe you could make a variation on the name, as a compromise?

I used to think [name]Apollo[/name] was too much until [name]Apolo[/name] Ohno. I used to picture this huge, gladiator when thinking of a man with a name like [name]Apollo[/name] but [name]Apolo[/name] Ohno is a small, everyday looking guy. He’s made the name much more down to earth.

It’s a great name and if you love it I would continue trying. Find out what her issues are with [name]Apollo[/name]. [name]Just[/name] saying “I hate it” is not a mature answer. She needs to give a thoughtful explanation. And who knows, maybe her reasons will change your mind or maybe she will grow to like [name]Apollo[/name] after really thinking about the name.
