Okay, so, about halfway through each pregnancy, we think we have names picked out, and then we try living with our choices for a little bit, and wind up throwing one or more out after all (I guess we avoid some name regret that way). It’s that time, so we need some help narrowing down and filling in the blanks:
My husband thought [name_f]Polly[/name_f] was too insubstantial for a full name, so we went hunting for a name for the birth certificate. I knew [name_f]Polly[/name_f] was a nickname for [name_f]Mary[/name_f], and we had previously liked [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], so we thought it would work…
Some of the others sounds too modern/trendy with the names you already have.
For a girl I think [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] has the best flow. But the others all work.
So for everyday names you already have [name_f]Sara[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (does [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] have a nn?), [name_m]Matthias[/name_m] (does he go by that in full?)? And then you’d add [name_f]Polly[/name_f] or [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] ([name_m]Gabe[/name_m]?) to the mix?
Thanks! Boys are hard. Based on your suggestions about style, I crossed off [name_u]Blake[/name_u] and added [name_m]Adrian[/name_m], which we had considered, but I’m liking it more and more. I also crossed off [name_m]Charles[/name_m], after an obstinate grandmother insisted that she WOULD call him [name_m]Chuck[/name_m]; we didn’t like it enough to battle over. And [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] is the product of DH wanting a something longer than my suggested [name_m]Eli[/name_m] that was not super Old Testament.
In answer to your other question, our “call names” are [name_f]Sara[/name_f], [name_u]Kit[/name_u], and [name_m]Matthias[/name_m]. Never [name_m]Matt[/name_m], originally because my sister has a [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], although he wound up being [name_u]Pat[/name_u] anyway. So yes, we are adding [name_f]Polly[/name_f] or [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] to those
I like [name_m]Damian[/name_m], [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] for your boys and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] for your girls
Great! I really like [name_m]Adrian[/name_m]! [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] sounds a little rhyme-y but I think it works. Definitely not a tongue twister and the flow is good. I guess they just sound similar together.
I like [name_m]Charles[/name_m] but if it would be reduced to [name_m]Chuck[/name_m] I’d scrap it too!
Your other names are so cute! [name_f]Polly[/name_f] or [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] will fit right in!
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is my favorite. It doesn’t repeat the N sound and it just sounds lovely. My second pick would be [name_f]Sofia[/name_f], followed by [name_f]Victoria[/name_f].
I really like [name_u]Owen[/name_u] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. It goes well with your set, sounds beautiful, and has an air of sophistication about it.
I’m not fond of [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] or [name_m]Damian[/name_m] with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] because they repeat the long A sound.
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
&
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] (even if you call him [name_m]Gabe[/name_m], he also would have the cute nn choice of ‘[name_u]Noel[/name_u]’/[name_f]Noa[/name_f] later on too although I love The full name [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]!).
