- sen or -son?

We have this family tradition where my middle name is my mother’s name and her middle name is her mother’s name and so on and so forth, but my top girl name picks dont jive well with [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]… so I’ve decided to mix things up a little.

I came across the name [name_u]Jensen[/name_u]. Or, maybe, [name_m]Jenson[/name_m]? I like the sound of [name_u]Jensen[/name_u] but [name_m]Jenson[/name_m] is a more obvious homage. [name_f]Kinda[/name_f] torn between the two, mostly because my mom prefers [name_m]Jenson[/name_m].

What’s your vote? Tell me why, too. I’m curious.

I much prefer [name_u]Jensen[/name_u]. To me, it looks like the correct spelling, and differs itself from the more popular - son names. It sounds like it’s your preference too.

I much prefer [name_u]Jensen[/name_u] too! Its such a handsome name. [name_f]IMO[/name_f] [name_m]Jenson[/name_m] just looks like another [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] and it becomes more trendy in my eyes!

I prefer [name_u]Jensen[/name_u] for the same reasons as the previous posters

[name_u]Jensen[/name_u]’s also my favourite spelling. It looks more legitimate, and I agree that it doesn’t just blend in with all the other -son names.

I pronounce both pretty much the same way. Personally I like E’s (I chose an -en name spelling for my own son), and I thought it looked like it “matched” with our last name which has E’s in it. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer either spelling visually with your last name or the middle name? I do like how [name_m]Jenson[/name_m] is the clear tribute, how fun! - no one just meeting him will know the family significance. So sweet. But [name_u]Jensen[/name_u] also is plenty of tribute enough. One last thought- I think the -on spelling looks more overtly masculine than -en.

[name_u]Jensen[/name_u]! [name_u]Love[/name_u] to hear your combos with it!

I prefer [name_u]Jensen[/name_u], however, etymologically speaking, [name_u]Jensen[/name_u] is Scandinavian meaning ‘son of [name_m]Jens[/name_m] (Danish form of [name_m]John[/name_m])’ so knowing that, it doesn’t seem to do as you’d like in honoring your [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], as it’s unrelated so to speak.

On the other hand, with [name_m]Jenson[/name_m], you’ve directly got ‘[name_f]Jen[/name_f]’ + ‘son’ ([name_f]Jen[/name_f]'s son), so it makes most sense to me that way.

I actually really love the idea of [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] as a middle name (I think something like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], etc., are all so lovely!), but if you’re not sold, I think [name_u]Jensen[/name_u] is a great alternative for a son. :stuck_out_tongue: [name_m]Jenson[/name_m] I’m not as fond of, but I think [name_u]Jensen[/name_u] is really cool!

[name_u]Jensen[/name_u]. I don’t know why I prefer it

This!

I was going to say that -sen is skandinavian and -son is English and was going to encourage you to pick whichever suffix matches your heritage (if either of them work). But I think @sunniva nailed it with [name_m]Jens[/name_m], and so I vote for [name_m]Jenson[/name_m]!!

I like [name_u]Jensen[/name_u] because it seems more feminine than [name_m]Jenson[/name_m]. I also like it because my fave dancer on So You Think You Can Dance this season was [name_u]Jensen[/name_u]!

[name_u]Jensen[/name_u] looks and sounds much better!

[name_u]Jensen[/name_u]! I love that name
