Serious Question

How awful would it be to use Jaspen? I’m not usually one for making up names, but I love this one. All 3 of my kids have N ending first names and so do my husband and I. I’ve gone back and forth on continuing the theme and honestly Jasper is the only name stopping me from it. I love Jasper and I love Aspen, but I already have an Arwen and don’t want to repeat initials. Plus the possibility of teasing with Aspen bothers me. Jaspen eliminates the teasing issues and I love the J. I love Caspian too, but my husband does not. I also like Espen, but not the likelyhood of it being mistaken for ESPN. I mean I know kids named Dr€dyn and Bl@idyn among others. Is Jaspen really so bad?

I think it’s perfect; I’m shocked it’s not in use already. If children can be named [name_u]Jream[/name_u] (little girls, no less!), yours can be sweet Jaspen. 🫶🏼

I think I need time to sit with the name and think on it, but my first impression is that it has an appealing sound and a ‘namey’ enough vibe that I think it could work

Ditto.

Hubby hates it. Oh well. :unamused:

Jaspen is not bad, but it’s not [name_u]Jasper[/name_u]. Other Suggestions - with a [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] feel

Im sort of annoyed by names that sound too close to other names that are way more popular. I knew a [name_m]Chason[/name_m] and thought why?? But its not a bad name intrinsically. I just don’t like it.

Sounds like it should be a name

I never heard it but only realized it was made up when you mentioned it, so I don’t think it’s bad

It’s made up but reasonably spelled and pronounced.

Jaspen is so close to [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] and [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] that I think people would constantly confuse it with one or the other. I have a completely common run of the mill first name that often gets mistaken for another name of the same type and it’s definitely annoying. If you’re stuck on wanting to name your kid to fit in with everyone else’s N ending name (not knowing what your other kids are), here are my suggestions:

[name_m]Caden[/name_m]
[name_u]Holden[/name_u]
[name_u]Jordan[/name_u]
[name_m]Brendan[/name_m]
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]
[name_m]Jamian[/name_m]
[name_u]Ryan[/name_u]
[name_m]Jason[/name_m]
[name_u]Teagan[/name_u]
[name_m]Fabian[/name_m]
[name_m]Gannon[/name_m]
[name_u]Mason[/name_u]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_m]Kevin[/name_m]
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u]

What about [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]? It has a lot of similar sounds to [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] and [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], and I think it fits really well with your other children’s names! In didn’t see it mentioned yet, so I had to throw it in for consideration!

It’s not that bad, but I’m not a huge fan. What about something like [name_m]Jansen[/name_m] or [name_u]Jensen[/name_u]?

I prefer [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] over Jaspen, and can’t unsee Jaspen as the former with a letter placed in front of it. (Maybe because you mention [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] in the OP?) [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] is relatively common, and I’m not sure how it may be “tease-able.”

Other names with N endings:
Jessamine/Jessamin
[name_u]Fallon[/name_u]
[name_u]Aven[/name_u]
[name_u]Teagan[/name_u]
[name_f]Megan[/name_f] (maybe too popular…)
[name_u]Bevin[/name_u]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_u]Rune[/name_u]
[name_f]Lune[/name_f]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_u]Morgen[/name_u]
[name_f]Morgaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Reine[/name_f]
Nivene/Niviene/Nivenne (names of the [name_f]Lady[/name_f] of the [name_f]Lady[/name_f] in Arthurian myth)
Nimane/Nimiane/Nymanne (same as above; Nym could be a cute nickname)
Vivian/Vivienne

[name_u]Jasper[/name_u] is a great name & I think it goes well with your other kids’ names (which I saw on another post). I don’t think it’s necessary to continue the N theme if [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] is your favorite first name. It’s a very subtle theme and I don’t think an off-theme name would stick out at all.

[name_u]Or[/name_u] you could use a middle name that ends in N - that way you’re not abandoning the theme, just changing it a bit :slightly_smiling_face:
