We are down to our two finalists and trying to decide on a first name for our first child (a boy). I prefer [name]Seth[/name] and my other half prefers [name]Ethan[/name]. We will be giving the child a hypenated last name that combines two multi-syllable English sounding last names.
[name]Ethan[/name] [name]Jack[/name] ([name]Jack[/name] was my grandfather’s name)
[name]Ethan[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name]
The child will be Jewish, so both of these first names allow the child to have the same English and Hebrew name. Yes, we picked Biblical names deliberately! We think both names are great but worry about how popular [name]Ethan[/name] is right now.
I prefer [name]Seth[/name] over [name]Ethan[/name], although I think both names a classic and strong. I think [name]Seth[/name] [name]Malachi[/name] is probably my favorite combo. But [name]Seth[/name] [name]Aaron[/name] probably flows the best.
There seems to be an [name]Ethan[/name] epidemic where i live (20 minutes outside NYC) so I like [name]Seth[/name] better.
[name]Both[/name] are nice names though
Oh, I love your name choices so much!! I like [name]Seth[/name] and [name]Ethan[/name] almost the same, but perhaps [name]Seth[/name] just a tiny bit more. Given that your son will have a hyphenated last name, [name]Seth[/name] (being one syllable) is ideal.
These are my favorites. They are SO handsome!! #1 [name]Seth[/name] [name]Aaron[/name] #2 [name]Seth[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] #3 [name]Ethan[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name]
I much prefer [name]Ethan[/name] to [name]Seth[/name] in spite of its popularity. I just find [name]Ethan[/name] to be a stronger and more handsome name. [name]Seth[/name] is kind of lispy so it sounds weaker to me. Here are the US stats from last year for you to mull over.
[name]Ethan[/name] was No# 7 (16,567 boys) - [name]Ethan[/name] has been consistently in the top 100 since 1989 but it fell five places from No# 2 in 2010 to the present seventh place.
[name]Seth[/name] was No# 185 (2,070 boys) - [name]Seth[/name] has been steadily falling in popularity as well from its highest placing (No# 63 in 2000) to its present position.
I think that since you will have two full last names attached to the kid, keeping it short and sweet is necessary. [name]Seth[/name] [name]Aaron[/name] is my vote!
[name]Seth[/name]
I’ve only known 2 and both are wonderful people so I love the name
[name]Seth[/name] [name]Aaron[/name] was a contestant on Project Runway, don’t know how many would notice. He wasn’t a bad guy so it isn’t a negative association. My favorite is [name]Seth[/name] [name]Ari[/name], #2-[name]Seth[/name] [name]Aaron[/name]
I prefer [name]Ethan[/name] [name]Jack[/name] as a combo, but I vastly prefer [name]Seth[/name] as a FN. I think [name]Seth[/name] [name]Aaron[/name] is my favorite of the [name]Seth[/name] combos.
[name]Seth[/name] [name]Malachi[/name] and [name]Seth[/name] [name]Ari[/name] are both really appealing just as names. I do love [name]Gabriel[/name] but I think it works with either first.
I’d only use [name]Ethan[/name] [name]Jack[/name] for it’s family connection. And honestly I find [name]Jack[/name] [name]Malachi[/name]/[name]Jack[/name] [name]Ari[/name]/[name]Jack[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] more appealing.
[name]Seth[/name] [name]Malachi[/name] and [name]Ethan[/name] [name]Jack[/name] are both great, but as a fn I prefer [name]Seth[/name] just a little more.
I just thought I would update everyone who kindly weighed in. Our son is now 3 months old and we went with [name]Seth[/name] [name]Malachi[/name]. I noticed with mixed feelings that [name]Seth[/name] has now moved into Nameberry’s top 100 for 2012.
