Share An Excerpt From Your Story

This is like the teaser games (love those!), except you can share as much or as little of your story as you want. Because every author is proud of their creations🙂. [name_u]Happy[/name_u] writing, fellow authors!

As a slight rule change, you can also choose two words. The next person shares an excerpt that contains one or both of those words and give two new words.

So, here are the starter words: [name_u]Love[/name_u] and/or [name_u]Sun[/name_u]

fun, i like the idea of having two words to choose from!

“Pathetic? No, I wouldn’t say that. However, he did try to use you, and for that reason I really don’t want to see you crawling back to him. He doesn’t deserve you, and he definitely doesn’t deserve your attendance at that event.”
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] sighs as she sinks back into her seat. “You’re right. Why are feelings so complicated?”
I lean back in my chair and gaze out over the courtyard as I contemplate my answer. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f], our younger sisters, are sitting at a table in the sun, quite far from us. They usually aren’t very interested in what [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and I talk about.
“Life itself is complicated,” I finally answer, “and love is just one part of that. Maybe it gets simpler?” Having little experience in the field of romance, myself, I can only shrug and offer my best guess.

From The [name_f]Princess[/name_f] And Her Servant:

Malarrea stepped back in fear, but ended up bumping into [name_u]Devin[/name_u], who was so helpfully standing right behind her. “Stay out of the way, you twit!” She snapped at him. Unfortunately, she didn’t sound very threatening because her voice was shaking.
“Calm down, [name_f]Princess[/name_f]. It’s just a sword. He wouldn’t dare harm you with it. He has no reason to,” the nuisance replied. Then, a lot quieter, he added “And, if he did, that’s what I’m here for, isn’t it? To throw away my sorry existence to save your life.”

What are your two words?

Oh, I completely forgot about this!

Sword and/or [name_f]Fear[/name_f]

Gosh I can’t believe I just created this thread when it was here all along. . . well, more’s the merrier, I suppose! (And I love these games to a ridiculous degree, I bump them way too much, they’re amazing places for me to work out tricky scenes that only really existed in my head before [they’re not coming from thin air, though, I know exactly where in each story everything I put here goes])

He collapsed to his knees beside Caleb’s grave, his vision growing dim. [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] shouted his name and he felt a cold hand on his back.
“What happened?” [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] asked urgently. “What’s wrong?”
Spyros didn’t know if it was poison or panic making his heart race. [name_f]Every[/name_f] breath felt like a sword through his lungs. “Caleb. . . .” His head hit the ground.
“Spyros, talk to me! I can’t–” [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] trailed off, presumably seeing the thin silver lines spreading over Spyros’s throat and chest. “Silverbane.” He made a pained noise. “Why did you think I could save you?” he whispered.
“I wish I could see you,” Spyros muttered, staring at the fading leaves. He could feel Caleb’s fingers smoothing sweat-soaked hair away from his forehead before the world fell apart.

(Sorry, I didn’t mean to get so intense )

The large ship cut through the ocean like a blade, swiftly approaching its destination. On its deck stood two individuals, as different as day and night. One was a tall, hulking bear of a man, with thick unruly black hair and a beard of equal appearance. When he spoke, his voice too was like a bear’s, a coarse growl. “We’ll reach land by sunrise.” His silver eyes gleamed with excitement.
His companion was a remarkably thin and pale woman with straight, shoulder-length blond hair that almost appeared white. When she replied, her voice was a low purr. “Good. You know how much I loathe traveling by sea.”
Looking at those two figures, one could hardly find enough resemblance to label them as siblings, nevermind twins. The only trait that betrayed their connection was their eyes, equally icy and metallic silver. Their names were [name_m]Haakon[/name_m] and [name_f]Hildred[/name_f], Agents of [name_m]Lord[/name_m] [name_m]Moroz[/name_m] of Braegon.
[name_m]Haakon[/name_m], the more talkative of them, searched for something else to say. “Let’s hope the boy is ready for this mission. I worry that he might be too young.”
“You and I were younger,” [name_f]Hildred[/name_f] replied. Her hand absentmindedly caressed the hilt of her sword. “Besides, Fionblaidd is ready to curb any problems that may arise.”
“We can’t…” [name_m]Haakon[/name_m] shook his head. He never understood his sister’s motive for naming her sword. But he knew what she meant when she said it was ready to curb problems. “Aldrick would never forgive me if I let anything happen to Juriaan.”
“Aldrick,” [name_f]Hildred[/name_f] exclaimed. “Is dead!”

[name_m]New[/name_m] Words: Torrent and/or Twins

“You have to wait in line, [name_m]Prince[/name_m] Caleb,” the guard explained. “This is a day when royal titles aren’t supposed to matter, and it’s been postponed enough due to the plague. I’m aware of how happy the king will be to see you, but it’s tradition that you wait.”
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Caleb[/name_m] nodded. The Peasants’ Common was a great tradition, and he didn’t want to undermine it.
[name_f][/name_f]“You could use dye, maybe?” he could hear Spyros’s voice saying as he got closer. “Dye your sheep different colors, so you know which sheep is part of which flock?”
[name_f][/name_f]“That seems unconventional, sir,” came another, rougher voice, “but maybe that’s what we need at this point? We’ll try it.”
[name_f][/name_f]“Yeah, we’ll try it,” a third voice agreed.
[name_f][/name_f]Spyros sighed with relief. “Great! Let me know if it doesn’t work, I guess?”
[name_f][/name_f]As the shepherds left, [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] was able to move into the room, and Spyros looked up and saw him. His eyes widened with surprise, and then he was hugging [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] tighter than he ever had before. [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] almost fell back, but instead he wrapped his arms around his best friend and realized Spyros’s shoulders were shaking with silent sobs. [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] could feel the torrent of emotion suffuse the room, so he just stood there and held him long past when propriety stated he should let go.
