She is Here! Deciding between our two favourites

Our daughter is here and we are trying to decide between our two favourites:

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - we have loved it for awhile, but do worry it is a lot of name for a little girl to handle. We also worry it is too popular and that it may not be professional enough for the future. We like the NN [name_m]Penn[/name_m], [name_u]Penny[/name_u] and [name_f]Nell[/name_f]

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] - also a name we have loved for awhile. We like the NN [name_f]Bea[/name_f] but dislike [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]. We worry that we will constantly have to correct people that it is not [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and we worry a bit that people will think we made it up?? W

We really do love both (but can only use one) - so what does one do when they are 50/50 between two? how do you decide?

All help is appreciated (no new names though we are confused as it is)

I would go with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] since you like the nicknames. I think it suits a woman of all personalities and ages. My best friend’s mom is [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] who is a professional, and some friends have a little [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. It’s very versatile.

I prefer [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. I think it’s a gorgeous name dispite the popularity. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is cute two, but I love the nicknames for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]!

All the best and congratulations on your baby girl!:heartpulse:

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] for sure!

I would go with [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]! I don’t think you would have trouble with people mistaking her name for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. I haven’t personally heard anyone thinking [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] was named [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], for example.

Another vote for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. I love the nickname [name_f]Nell[/name_f]!

I don’t think you need to worry that [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] isn’t “professional” enough - it’s a lovely, sophisticated, classic name and will age just fine. I prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] personally, but I do love [name_f]Nell[/name_f]!

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is fab and doesn’t sound made-up at all! Everyone knows [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] and it’s such a strong, sweet, quirky name. I know [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] isn’t everyone’s cup of tea (I personally love it), but I think you can avoid it as [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is such an intuitive nickname.

Many congratulations on the birth of your daughter! She will have a great name regardless of which of these you go with

Both are great names so I can feel for your dilemma. For a start, I don’t think there’s a wrong choice there. Does either of them sound better with the surname? That would be a big factor for me.

As pps have said, [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is a sophisticated and stylish choice, so you don’t need to worry on that front. Lots of lovely nicknames.

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is also a stylish and sophisticated choice, and I can’t imagine anyone thinking you’ve made it up. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] is very well known. With nicknames you can control them to a large extent by being clear up front that it’s ‘[name_f]Bea[/name_f]’, and being prepared to correct people if they jump to [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]. [name_f]Beatie[/name_f] is another nn that I like.

I’ve loved [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] all my life, so think it’s fabulous if you choose it, but am leaning towards [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] as the less-used, slightly quirkier option.

Congratulations!

While I don’t think any of the issues which you brought up with either of your names should be an obstacle, I personally prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] due to it being lesser-used and having a great literary reference to [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. Good luck, congrats on your daughter!

Vote for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]! It’s cool and different - sassy, but pretty.

I like them both but I’m much more partial to [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and that’s definitely the way I would lean. Ultimately, follow your instinct. Congratulations!

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] definitely gets my vote. But maybe your best option is just flipping a coin. You seem to love both equally, so perhaps see how you feel about the outcome and choose accordingly :).

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] wins for me. I love the nn [name_m]Penn[/name_m]. it works for all ages.

My vote is for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. I think is definitely professional enough for an adult but has lots of nn options to suit every stage of life.

Definitely [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], it’s spunky but feminine, has lovely meanings, is well known but still rare and nn [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is lovely. I do like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nell[/name_f] but for me it is a little too popular. If you haven’t decided on a middle [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] has a lovely flow too and that way you get to use both names.

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is definitely my fave! You can’t go past the wonderful namesake [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] (so if anyone needs correcting them just remind them of her!)

Thanks everyone we really appreciate the thoughts.

We are completely torn - one day we are sure it is [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and the next day we are sure it is [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. It seems like our daughter fits both names well so that is just making it tougher … I guess we just need to choose and stick with it.

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f], for sure!

I know you said that you could only use one, but [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is a great combo
