Shepherd?

Is [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] way too far out there to be a first name? I feel like it’s very unusual, but I love nn [name_m]Shep[/name_m]. I want to say that it’s no different from any other occupation name - [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m], [name_m]Fisher[/name_m], etc… but it’s definitely less common. Would you think it was odd if you met a little [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]? I would maybe think about spelling it [name_m]Shepard[/name_m], because my husband grew up on a street with that name and it might be fun to have that connection. But [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] would maybe be spelled correctly more often? Anyway, thoughts?

I love the name [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]! I say go for it!

I think it’s nice.

I would spell it [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] to avoid confusion, but other than that I think it makes a wonderful name. I might be biased though because I love underused occupation names.

@thenameprincess
I probably would just spell it [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], the connection is still there even if it isn’t spelled the same, right? I’m glad you like it! I feel like it’s a little out there for me…

I think it’s a great name and would not consider it weird at all to meet a little boy named [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]. Go for it!

Ok. Adding it to my short list. Middle name options? Last name sounds like McBeal

[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Hamish[/name_m]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Marshall[/name_m]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_u]Kieran[/name_u]

Also have any of you seen Firefly/[name_f]Serenity[/name_f]? I’m not necessarily taking it from there but I would be lying if I said I hadn’t heard it there first ([name_m]LONG[/name_m] before I was looking for baby names…)

I hadn’t thought of it right away, but it is a nice subtle nod to the show without being overly obvious. I’ve seen [name_f]Serenity[/name_f] and Inara used which are a little too obvious for my taste.

My favorite of your combos is [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Hamish[/name_m]. The only one I don’t like is [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Marshall[/name_m] because the combo is a little too occupational.

I like [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Hamish[/name_m].

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it! Great name.

I could definitely see a little boy named [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m].

[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]'s in that sweet spot of being on-trend yet uncommon. I’m really surprised it isn’t more popular, actually, since I can think of lots of fictional characters called [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]/[name_m]Shephard[/name_m]/[name_m]Shepard[/name_m]/etc.

I think it’s really handsome! I love [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_u]Kieran[/name_u].

Our daughter and her husband named their twin boys [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Deacon[/name_m]. They go by [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_m]Deacon[/name_m]. [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is a great name!

Youtuber [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] [name_u]Mclaughlin[/name_u] from the show Good Mythical [name_f]Morning[/name_f] has a son named [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]. I thought it was an unusual choice when I first heard it, but now it doesn’t sound all that “out there” or strange as a name anymore. It seems like it’s growing in popularity, because I’ve actually heard it in several places as a baby name. It seems perfectly okay to me!
