Sherlock or Holmes?

Which is the better fn? The ln would start with an “H”, but we don’t mind alliteration. Any thoughts you have on either name would also be appreciated. I’m not currently pg, so this is hypothetical. [name]Just[/name] looking for input. Thanks!

[name]Holmes[/name] I guess - less obvious. Personally I think [name]Sherlock[/name] would be a very hard name to wear! Everyone would think you’d have to know everything!

Definitely [name]Holmes[/name]. [name]Sherlock[/name] is so tied to the character, as well as idioms like “No sh*t, [name]Sherlock[/name]!” [name]Holmes[/name] pays a much more subtle homage and fits in with other surname-y names.

I love those names! I also like the TV series, which is so cool. I agree with the other posters on [name]Holmes[/name]. [name]Sherlock[/name] has that nasty saying “No sh** [name]Sherlock[/name]!” and I think [name]Holmes[/name] conjures an intelligent and rambunctious boy.

[name]Holmes[/name], of course. Or [name]Arthur[/name], or [name]Conan[/name], or maybe even [name]Doyle[/name]. [name]Sherlock[/name] is just too much.

[name]Holmes[/name]! I’ve considered both names before too, glad I’m not the only one.

Definetly [name]Holmes[/name]. I also like [name]Watson[/name] as a MN. I also kinda like Mycroft too, but not as a FN.

My friend has a dog named [name]Sherlock[/name]. I think it works in that context

[name]Sherlock[/name] is on my list.

I wish [name]Sherlock[/name] could work, but I really think you have to go with [name]Holmes[/name].

I do like the sound of [name]Sherlock[/name] (I used it for a book character) but I just think it couldnt work in every day life. To tied to the books. I have to vote for [name]Holmes[/name].

[name]Sherwin[/name] as an alternative to [name]Sherlock[/name]?

I firstly want to say to the OP xoxo that I love you. I love [name]Sherlock[/name] [name]Holmes[/name] (esp. the books and the BBC special, and [name]Robert[/name] Downey [name]Jr[/name] doesn’t hurt either ;), not to mention House/[name]Hugh[/name] [name]Laurie[/name]:heart::heart: ). I have a friend with the surname [name]Sherlock[/name] and a friend with the surname [name]Holmes[/name] (the former a female, the latter a male) and I want them to get married just so they can have the hyphenated surname!!

SO, back on topic (sorry!!), I think [name]Holmes[/name] is a more wearable first name. You could certainly sneak [name]Sherlock[/name] in as a middle name. [name]Even[/name] if you do call him [name]Holmes[/name]. He’s an awesome character and I honestly think it’s a name a kid could be proud of!

My names [name]Samantha[/name], and I like that my Mum got my name from Bewitched!! So, that sort of stuff kids always love. And then they grow up, and they still love it.

I think [name]Holmes[/name] is more wearable than [name]Sherlock[/name]… although a [name]Sherlock[/name] could always go by nn [name]Lock[/name].

I appreciate everyone’s feedback. It’s good to have a sounding board for these things. I am hoping that the BBC series and the movies help take away from the old derogatory phrase. He’s just such a fantastic character. Thanks for your help!
