She's coming soon! Help me fall in LOVE with a name

I’m not due until [name_u]March[/name_u] 2nd, but I was in the hospital last [name_f]Monday[/name_f] due to regular pressure waves. Now I’m on meds q6h to help put off my birthing time (but still having waves). Anyways… I’m pretty much “freaking out” for lack of a better term, over naming this girl. We thought we had it down to two- [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] or [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]. I’ve decided I just don’t care for my husbands favorite, [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]. So that left [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] “[name_f]Nellie[/name_f]”… I like… I don’t [name_f]LOVE[/name_f]. And to top it off when I tell people what we are thinking about naming her I get that uncomfortable pause…you know the one, and my boss actually had the nerve to tell me the other day that she’s going to hate her name when she gets in school lol… granted she was laughing when she said it so I’m trying to tell myself she was just joking. I ran a couple more names by my husband and he still likes [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] of course but also [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and [name_f]Norah[/name_f]. Our son is [name_u]Carson[/name_u] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Wagner[/name_m]. I just want to [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] a name and I don’t… HELP!

Aw, sorry your boss gave an off-putting reaction to [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - I actually think it’s a great name, and it suits [name_u]Carson[/name_u], too. Congratulations on your upcoming arrival, though!
You say you like [name_f]Nora[/name_f] - do you like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]? [name_f]Mila[/name_f] makes me think of [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Milena[/name_f]. Is there any particular culture you’re trying to honor/recognise with this name? [name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering, as [name_f]Mila[/name_f] has a slight eastern european association for me, and I wondered if you’re hoping for suggestions from that culture. Let me know if any of these are your style, so you can help us come up with more

I definitely prefer [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] to [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]. I think [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is a lovely name and [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] is an adorable nickname. I also love [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and [name_f]Norah[/name_f]. I think the suggestions or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] are perfect, as is [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] with [name_f]Nora[/name_f] for a nickname.

Beyond those names I would suggest-
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Noelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]

[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] ([name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Evie[/name_f])
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f] is such a cute nickname!)
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] (lots of great nickname options)
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] (again with lots of wonderful nicknames. [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] is darling)
Loiusa
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]

I really like [name_f]Nora[/name_f] with [name_u]Carson[/name_u]. As for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], if you love the nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], how about naming your new little one just [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]?

I agree that [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nora[/name_f] would be lovely.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] you settle on one soon!

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is beautiful and classic! You definitely need to block out others opinions. We get the uncomfortable silence too and not one person have said they liie our daughters name, but we do! What makes me love her name is the full name, so maybe you just need to find a perfect combo? I do love [name_f]Nora[/name_f] too!

what about [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Nora[/name_f]? Or [name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]?
NN [name_u]Penny[/name_u] or [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] or go by [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] or [name_f]Nora[/name_f].

And save yourself the trouble, dint ever tell code family or friends your name ideas!!! it’s tempting but just don’t. chances are someone will always have an unfavorable reaction. your decision needs to be based on your feelings not theirs and when it’s someone close it’s hard to not let it get in the way. if they don’t learn the baby’s name until after its born and named they are going to keep those opinions to themselves, you will never know so is good for you, and chances are once the child has grown some they will come to like or love the name more and more because of who is associated with. since its fun to talk about names though, if the opportunity ever comes up in small talk with a stranger I go ahead and tell them what we’re thinking. that way I get to test it, no one close to me will hear it, and if it’s an unfavorable reaction I can decide whether I want to use that in my decision or not, since its a stranger what do I care if they don’t like the name.

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is lovely and brings to mind a vivacious, worldly woman. It is a classic, established, but not overly common name meaning “weaver.” I think many girls would be happy to have that name. If [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] doesn’t [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] her full name, the short forms provide lots of options… [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_u]Penny[/name_u], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], Opy, etc. I think you should embrace it and go with it! Who cares about one critical person’s reaction?! The name [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] has a lot going for it… and if you give it to your daughter, so will she!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] out of curiosity, what were you thinking of using for her middle name?

Some people think kids will get made fun of if they’re named ANYTHING other than [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] (or [name_u]Madison[/name_u] or [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] or [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], depending on how behind they are on naming trends). [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t let her get to you. There is nothing so weird or unusual about [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] that it might negatively affect your daughter’s life - in fact, a lot of parents are worried it will get TOO well-liked and popular.

I don’t like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] very much. Have you mulled over similar names?

I like the suggestion of [name_f]Nora[/name_f] with [name_u]Carson[/name_u] a lot! I’m not a fan of [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] at all.

I personally love [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] & if I was able to use it (a friend has a daughter named this) I would totally use it! [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] & penny are super cute nicknames [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
I also like [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] & [name_f]Norah[/name_f] (another friend has an [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], so [name_f]Norah[/name_f] is off limits for me too)!

i really like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]! NN [name_u]Penny[/name_u] tho. [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] is NMS nor any of the others mentioned. how do you feel about [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] NN [name_f]Evie[/name_f]? that’s a new favorite for me… or [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] NN [name_f]Addie[/name_f]? [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] NN [name_f]Calla[/name_f]?

I defiantly prefer [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] over [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is gorgeous and works with [name_u]Carson[/name_u]!

However if your not a 100% sure on [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] I’d look at names similar to [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]…
[name_f]Pandora[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]

[name_f]Mila[/name_f]…
[name_f]Milena[/name_f]
[name_f]Marina[/name_f]
[name_f]Fabiola[/name_f]
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f]

[name_f]Cora[/name_f]

[name_u]Tatum[/name_u]
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]

But I’d stick with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. I have a feeling that you love it!! Who cares if your boss said a stupid comment? Bosses do say stupid things most the time I look at my boss like ‘what?’ haha so ignore and go with the gorgeous [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].

A few days late, but I stumbled across your thread. First of all, [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is right on trend so I have a hard time seeing how a little girl would not like it…and the wonderful nicknames.

With that said, how about [name_f]Mira[/name_f]? My DH and I are pretty certain that is our top choice at his point. [name_f]Nora[/name_f] was our top contender for a long time. But if you like [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f]…I see [name_f]Mira[/name_f] as a really good choice. The name has loads of beautiful meanings and origins! Good luck!

My little sisters favorite girl name is [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. She had a little boy five years ago and so obviously didn’t get to use it, but she still loves and if she had a baby girl tomorrow that’s what she’d use.

I wish I had my mind that set! I don’t know why people would be put-off by this name though. If you’re having doubts because of people’s reactions in your inner circle, I say block 'em out. That baby girl is going to be born and OWN her name. They’ll love it. It’s not like you’re naming her something outlandish or something like [name_f]Hester[/name_f].

[name_f]Norah[/name_f] is lovely too. I like it stand alone, but there is also [name_f]Lenore[/name_f]/[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]. Names I find similar to [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] are…

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f] – nn [name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Sabine[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Mirabel[/name_f]

I love the name [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]!!! I think it is a wonderful name & maybe you should give it a second chance.

Agreed, [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] is a super star name just waiting for a blessed girl! [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is way too trendy and it will soon be the new [name_u]Madison[/name_u], courtesy of Kardashians, et al. You can call her nelly, still!!
