Shiloh?

Would too many people associate it Brangelina’s DAUGHTER [name]Shiloh[/name]? I love it for a boy. What do you think?

nms sorry. I wouldn’t use it on a boy either.

I like it for either a boy or a girl. I am a bit deterred by that the fact it’s so associated with Brangelina, but I don’t think that it makes the name unususable. There is a male actor, [name]Shiloh[/name] Fernandez, who has been in a few things lately, so perhaps if he becomes more famous the name will be less tied to Brangelina.

I always think of [name]Shiloh[/name] as a girl’s name, not because of the celebrity, but because of the movie [name]Shiloh[/name]! (It seems like no one remembers that beloved dog) The dog was a girl  and my cousin named her basset hound, also a girl, [name]Shiloh[/name].

Actually, the dog was a boy (though I believe the dog that played [name]Shiloh[/name] in the film was a female). I read the book as a kid when it first came out and because of that association, I always have a hard time picturing the name on a person instead of an animal. If someone were to use it on their child though, I would assume they were using it on a boy since (probably because of the book) I think of [name]Shiloh[/name] as a male name.

I never read the book and the one in the film is a girl. The dog’s real name is [name]Frannie[/name] So I guess that’s why I think it’s a girl’s name.

Well I prefer [name]Shiloh[/name] on a boy. I’ve only ever met boy [name]Shiloh[/name]'s and one of my close friends is a male [name]Shiloh[/name].

I think it has masculine sounds and I don’t think every body you meet will think of Brangelina’s daughter. I love it, use it!

I do see it as more of a girls’ name. [name]Every[/name] one I’ve met has been female:

  • one I went to high school with in the 90s
  • the daughter of a friend ([name]Born[/name] less than a month before the Brangelina babe. [name]Oy[/name], her mother was heartsick…and she does get the “Like the Brangelina girl?” question.)
  • a dog

There’s also a poster on another board I used to frequent with a daughter named [name]Shiloh[/name] [name]Wren[/name].

For a lot of people, [name]Shiloh[/name] [name]Jolie[/name]-[name]Pitt[/name] might be the only reference they have for [name]Shiloh[/name] outside of Civil War documentaries. I think some association between the name and the celebribaby is inevitable.

I would only see this on a girl. If I met a boy named this, I would pity him growing up with a girl’s name.

I love it. I ‘discovered’ it one day in church when I was little. I was very annoyed when several years later the [name]Jolie[/name]-Pitts used it.

The name is unisex, it’s a biblical place name.

Besides Brangelina’s daughter, the former NFL player [name]Deion[/name] [name]Sanders[/name] has a teen son named [name]Shilo[/name]

He’d probably pity you for not knowing that [name]Shiloh[/name] isn’t a girl name

I love [name]Shiloh[/name]! I read this amazing series in high school with a [name]Shiloh[/name] in it–he was a nurse that worked for a female doctor a decade or so after the Civil War, and it was just a really great series. I loved the [name]Shiloh[/name] in that book, and he made me love the name. I think [name]Shiloh[/name] is so usable on a boy, but I have to say, the majority of people I come across think of it as only a girls’ name because of the [name]Jolie[/name]-Pitts. :frowning:

love love love shiloh better on a boy then girl

I think it’s cool, edgy and quirky and I’d love to see [name]Shiloh[/name] on a boy! My only reference to it is [name]Shiloh[/name] [name]Jolie[/name]-[name]Pitt[/name] but I’m well aware that is a “unisex” name as such. By the look of things in the UK it’s evenly used so here it wouldn’t matter so much.
