[name]Hi[/name], I’m writing a short story for English. It’s about a rich couple [name]May[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name]. They already have 15 kids…Anyway they are having twins. This may sound far fetched but its meant to be a sort of comedy/silly story. It’s basically just to enhance our imagination.
I only mention some of the other kids names [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Harry[/name], [name]Isobel[/name] and [name]Vivien[/name]. It’s boy/girl twins. I have some names but need more.
I noticed that you really have two styles going here. You’ve got classics like [name]Margaret[/name] and [name]Benjamin[/name], and names that were more popular around the ‘70’s, like [name]Tina[/name] and [name]Tricia[/name]. You might want to think about whether you want to go with a particular style for this family – that might help you decide on the rest of your characters’ names.
I’m going to plug your list into Nymbler and see if I can find some names that are similar to the ones you’ve mentioned. You can do this yourself, of course, but I’ll give you a quick sampling:
Plugging in [name]Tricia[/name] and [name]Tina[/name]:
[name]Autumn[/name]
[name]Brent[/name]
[name]Darren[/name]
[name]Ginger[/name]
[name]Greg[/name]
[name]Jody[/name]
[name]Joey[/name]
[name]Laura[/name]
[name]Megan[/name]
[name]Stacey[/name]
[name]Tammy[/name]
[name]Teresa[/name]
[name]Todd[/name]
See the difference in style? You can mix and match, of course; just make sure you consider what kind of image you want your names to create in the minds of your readers. '70’s names imply certain things, and so do classics.
Personally, I love [name]Laura[/name] (as you can see from my signature), and I think [name]Laura[/name] and [name]Graham[/name] make a great subset. In case you’re not sold on those, here are some more options -
I like the name [name]Kyra[/name] a lot, but I never think of it as a suggestion.
I don’t have any great advice for this one, I’d say when you’re going with that many, don’t ‘hand-pick’ the names for each character-pick a theme and go with it. If you want simpler, common names, go for the obvious ones:
[name]Anna[/name]
[name]Laura[/name] (yep, I’m agreeing with you. ;))
[name]Kiley[/name]
etc. (no, not as a name!)
If you want more unique names, type in the ‘theme’ on google (you find some amazing names on google, for really broad and/or specific descriptions) or nameberry, and just check off your favorites from the list you find. I wouldn’t take particular care with the names when they come in such great quantities.
