I think the title pretty much says it all! I’m looking for girls names that you don’t hear every day, but that anyone with a basic sense of phonetics can spell and pronounce ;). Two syllables or less, 6 letters or less are preferable. I tend toward vintage/antique (see my siggy for favorites), while my husband is pulled toward nature names ([name]Prairie[/name], [name]Briar[/name], [name]Hazel[/name]) and elaborate or fantasy names ([name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Francesca[/name], [name]Eowyn[/name], [name]Arwen[/name]). Not currently expecting, but always on the lookout for “the one” as we are both very opinionated about these things. Thanks in advance!
My daughter’s name is [name]Orly[/name], which is short and rare, but easy to spell and pronounce. it means “my light.”
I also love:
[name]Libby[/name]
[name]Lena[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]
[name]Evie[/name]
[name]Bria[/name]
@rachelmay23: I’ve always loved [name]Libby[/name]. It’s so sweet!
@scarlettrobin: [name]Lyra[/name] was on the short list for our daughter before we remembered [name]Ivy[/name]. Now I’m not sure about the long “i” sounds together. [name]Ruth[/name] is also a favorite as it was my grandmother’s name - I don’t know if it holds up to [name]Ivy[/name]'s spunk factor though. Are you nicknaming your daughter [name]Ruthie[/name] at all? [name]Fern[/name] is on my short list - do you think it’s too much green with [name]Ivy[/name], or is it subtle enough to work? [name]Love[/name] [name]Ada[/name], [name]Elsa[/name], and [name]Vera[/name] too.
I think [name]Fern[/name] works well, it goes well with [name]Ivy[/name] since it’s a short botanical name, but it isn’t too matchy like [name]Holly[/name] would be. Reminds me of the girl in [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name].
Yes, I’ve been calling her [name]Ruthie[/name]. Probably right, [name]Ruth[/name] in and of itself isn’t exactly as spunky but the nicknames might fit the bill, i.e. [name]Ruthie[/name], [name]Rue[/name], etc.
I was trying for one or two syllables or under four letters with my name suggestions so it’d match [name]Ivy[/name]. [name]Glad[/name] you liked some of them. A five letter one, [name]Nanda[/name], was another one I just thought of, a nickname for [name]Fernanda[/name].
[name]Flora[/name], [name]Tess[/name], & [name]June[/name] are all great! I like quite a few of the others too. Would your suggestions change at all if I told you our last name is K0tth0ff? Also, would you think it was weird to meet a family where the parents were [name]Tim[/name] and [name]Tara[/name], and daughters were [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Tess[/name] (or [name]Thea[/name])? I’m in love with [name]Thea[/name] but I worry that [name]Ivy[/name] will feel left out if we don’t have another kid with a non “t” name.
I don’t think having a child with a “T” name would be problematic at all, especially since she would be your second. Now if you had [name]Tim[/name], [name]Tara[/name], [name]Thea[/name] and [name]Ivy[/name] I would think [name]Ivy[/name] got left out, but since it would be [name]Tim[/name], [name]Tara[/name], [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Thea[/name], I think it’s a non-issue. I would only be worried if you wanted to give the second child a name starting with “I”, since then you might get yourself into a corner if you ever had a third. ([name]Ivy[/name], [name]Iris[/name] and…[name]Kate[/name]? [name]Sam[/name]?)
@kala_way - I really like [name]Fauna[/name], but I’m not sure how I feel about fauns. I’m always torn on that one! [name]Darby[/name] is nice, but I think I like it on a boy. Is that weird?
@namenerdia - That’s an encouraging perspective! As much as I like [name]Iris[/name], she will not be getting any love in our sibset
@covella - I like every single name on your list! I can never decide whether I like [name]Kit[/name] more for a boy or a girl!
