Shortening the list

Due in June with baby #5 (third girl!). I love names and meanings and backstories etc etc… which has its pros and cons when it comes to naming your own as many of you know :joy:.

Siblings names are a mix of honor names and names we just liked, and they are: Jeffrey Edwin (Jay), Virginia Penelope (Ginny), Mark Harrison (Mac), and Helena Estelle (Laney).

Here is my short list as of now:

  • Beatrix Eliza (Birdie)
  • Susannah Jane (Sunny or Annie…love them both!)
  • Darcey Margaret

[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is wonderful and fits with your set really well!

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] would be my second pick

I like [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] the best! Both for the nicknames [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] and [name_f]Annie[/name_f] (and also Suki), and also because, from my POV, [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is a tad hip/twee with the other, more classic and sturdy names, and [name_u]Darcey[/name_u] isn’t quite as romantic. But all three are pretty!

In order:

  1. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
  2. [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] would be my first pick.

This has been fun to watch! Thanks to everyone who has voted!!

One comment did bring up a question I’ve had myself lately. I’ve been on nameberry forums so so much over the last 6 years, and specifically the last few months as we’ve been brainstorming #5 names…which makes me wonder if [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is wearable in “real” life, or if it just feels like a totally fun, beautiful, and reasonable name option because of the nameberry effect :joy:. [name_f]My[/name_f] other kids have very grounded, classic type names. Does anyone know anyone named [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] in real life?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Your kids’ names are so fun! I love the just barely makes sense nick-name style.

I love love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. It’s one of my favorites, & it fits beautifully with your crew. It’s such a great balance of feminine, vintage, bookish yet spunky! [name_m]Just[/name_m] kind & lovable & charming. Well known & easy to say & spell, but not popular. All of the good stuff! [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] is a perfect fit with [name_u]Jay[/name_u], [name_f]Ginny[/name_f], [name_m]Mac[/name_m] & [name_u]Laney[/name_u]. So adorable.

[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is my second choice. I really really like the idea of [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]. It’s just delightful & hard to say without a smile. I also kind of like [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] nn Sadie…but I also like [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. They’re all good. I still don’t love [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] nearly as much as [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] personally, but it’s a lovely name none the less.

[name_u]Darcey[/name_u] isn’t a bad name, but it’s not my cup of tea (I just don’t like the sound) and it doesn’t fit in as well.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

It was so close between [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] nn [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] for me. I chose [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] just because I think it flows a bit better. If it were [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] that would be my pick!

I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], thanks for the idea!

We have a niece named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] so it’s made me hesitant to go with the full [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], though I love the name and think it sounds beautiful with [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]!

I have met a couple - the [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] was the child of a very trendy couple - they called her her full name (but I am imagining, [name_f]Bea[/name_f], [name_f]Trixie[/name_f], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] etc could be used). It’s too stylised for me. I met a [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] when I was young - she seemed lovely, and there’s obviously [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] if you’re following those guys. Both names are completely reasonable and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is a fave among the posh Brits, I just find the name fusty but not in a good way (I don’t like saying the word). As said, I think [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] goes best - it’s very floaty and pretty, like [name_f]Helena[/name_f]! In other words, I don’t think it’s beautiful [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] versus grounded [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] - I see [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] as more ‘girl running through fields’ than (witty, hockey-playing) [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. But I am saying this knowing loads of people love Beatrice/trix on here, you’re right, and I can see the nicknames working well.

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] for the win! I think it goes just wonderful with the others, especially [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].
