Shoshanna

[name]How[/name] is Shoshanna pronounced?
Show - shanna or Shosh (rhymes with [name]Josh[/name]) anna?
I am looking for a name that ends in [name]Anna[/name], and I thought this name might be a contender.
My mother’s name is [name]Susan[/name] and my middle name is [name]Susanne[/name].

Lovelovelove [name]Shoshana[/name]! I’ve always said it SHOW-shah-nah.

I would pronounce it show-SHAH-nah. I’ve only ever seen it spelled [name]Shoshana[/name], but it has a distinctly Jewish vibe to me – so much so that I would feel weird using it since I’m not Jewish.

My middle name is [name]Susanne[/name], too

I’ve always said something kind of in between show- and shosh-, if that makes any sense. Either way, I think it’s really pretty! I’ve generally seen it with one -n, though, rather than two? It’s the Hebrew variant of [name]Susan[/name]/[name]Susanne[/name], so that’s really nice!

Despite the spelling varying from one n to two, I’ve never actually heard it make an [name]Anna[/name] sound? And I know quite a few.

Sho-SHAH-nuh. Like [name]Lana[/name]?

I think the [name]Shoshana[/name] spelling might clarify this, and is my favourite (I’ve also seen versions with h’s on the end but am not a huge fan).

For an -anna pronunciation I would consider [name]Susanna[/name]/[name]Susannah[/name].

The spelling in English doesn’t affect the pronunciation. It’s Shoh-SHAH-nuh.

I pronounce it Shoh-SHAH-nah.
You can always hear it being pronounced in Inglourious Basterds [x].

I went to school with a girl called Shoshanna who pronounced it: SHOW-shan-ah or SHA-shan-ah, when I told my mother she didn’t believe it was a real name, she thought I was making it up! I like it in theory but the SHOSH at the beginning puts me off.

It’s also one of the main characters on the tv show Girls. They pronounce it “shoh-SHAH-nuh”.

I know a Jewish family whose daughter’s name is [name]Shoshana[/name]. They pronounce is Sho-SHAY_na. The a in shay is the long sound. Unfortunately, it is beginning to pop up in lower socioeconomic lists of names in our local paper. I used to love it, but not any more.

I think I am going to start watching that show “Girls”
So it it isn’t an anna ending. It’s a shayna ending?
My husband has a cousin named [name]Shayna[/name], so I guess I wouldn’t use it. Too bad. It’s pretty.

No, it sounds like Show-shawn-a. At least it does on Girls. You can make it end any way you want!

No, its not shayna to rhyme with day-na, its shana to rhyme with [name]Lana[/name]. It’s got a bit of the vowel sound of shawn (certainly more than shane) but not the hard w awww sound.

Well you can make it end with Tipperary if you want but that doesn’t mean it does?

I looooove [name]Shoshana[/name]. I say SHOW-sha-nah, as someone posted above. Shoshana pronunciation: How to pronounce Shoshana in English, German, Spanish

I see Inglorious Basterds has been mentioned… I liked [name]Shoshana[/name] long before that, but now my friends who know what a [name]Tarantino[/name] fan I am tease me its for that. It wasn’t!

([name]Emmanuelle[/name] was helped along by it, though blush)

Au revoir [name]Shosanna[/name]!

It is pronounced sho-SHAH-nah. It is a beautiful name, but I don’t think I would use it unless I was Jewish.
