I don’t think it matters at all.
I do know that [name]Reuben[/name] was [name]Leah[/name]'s first son, and if I met a [name]Leah[/name] with a son called [name]Reuben[/name], I would think of that. However it wouldn’t be a BAD thing, I’d think it was sweet.
I have a friend called [name]Isaac[/name], whose Mom is [name]Sarah[/name], so it didn’t bother them!
I probably would have noticed, but I think it’s lovely.
[name]Rueben[/name]'s a great name - I know 3 or 4. It’s not that common in the US though is it? I found that rather odd as it’s top 100 here and Old Testament names are quite popular at the minute.
Thanks everyone for your input! [name]Reuben[/name] has always been a guilty pleasure name for me, I assumed people would side eye me for actually using it if they caught the Biblical connection. I’m so glad many of you think that it’s actually a reason to use it! It is a family name on my husband’s side, it flows well with our surname, and is my husband’s favorite choice. I love it and my only reservation was if people would have negative reactions to the Biblical connection, or if many would even catch it, so thank you all!
In my area, [name]Reuben[/name] isn’t very common. I’m not sure of the exact numbers, but I’ve only heard of one (and I work at a school, so one [name]Reuben[/name] in a whole elementary school is not very many).
Use it!! My last name is [name]Rubin[/name] (pronounced exactly the same way) and I love the nicknames my family members and myself all get from it. [name]Rube[/name], Rubes, [name]Ruby[/name] for me, and most of the time for sports I instantly get called [name]Rubin[/name] by my coaches. I really always wanted to use it as a first or middle name but I don’t think my boyfriend would ever go for it.
Oh and the connection is wonderful in my opinion! The twelve sons of [name]Jacob[/name] always stuck out to me when I learned about their family’s story in church.
My name is also [name]Leah[/name] (all of my siblings and I have Biblical names), and I didn’t even come up with that connection. I totally thought of the sandwich first haha. That said, a [name]Reuben[/name] is a delicious sandwich, the Biblical connection is really cute, and I love the name [name]Reuben[/name] (very manly sounding [name]IMO[/name]), so I definitely say go for it!
I didn’t notice, and even if people were to notice, I think it would just seem kind of…funny? Not really a problem, in my opinion!
