We have a 6 month old daughter called [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - I love her name but I hadn’t realised how popular [name_f]Evie[/name_f]/[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] has become along with [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] being similar sounding.
I don’t want to change her name completely but what do you think about extending it officially to [name_f]Evalina[/name_f] - that way she can still be [name_f]Eva[/name_f] with the choice of [name_f]Evalina[/name_f] to distinguish her at school etc with all the other [name_f]Evie[/name_f]/[name_f]Ava[/name_f]/[name_f]Isla[/name_f] names.
Thoughts on the name [name_f]Evalina[/name_f]? Would it age well?
[name_f]Evalina[/name_f] is so gorgeous, but I prefer the [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] spelling. It’s a wonderful name that will age superbly. If your daughter wants to go by spunky [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and resort to a more formal name when she is older, [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is a wonderful choice.
I assume she would usually still be called [name_f]Eva[/name_f] so being that the popularity of [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is concerning to you, I think it is a good option. You wouldn’t even need to “announce” it [name_f]IMO[/name_f] as it would just be her formal name on paper for now but would give her the option to use it or reference it. I think [name_f]Evalina[/name_f] is beautiful and does not feel trendy to me at all so I think it will age well. All the best.
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is absolutely stunning although I must warn you that changing her name legally could be quite the hassle. I think [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is a perfectly beautiful, feminine name and it ages amazingly well. At the end of the day it’s your decision, mom.
I think if you and her other parent both feel strongly about it, and you both love [name_f]Evalina[/name_f] as much as [name_f]Eva[/name_f], you should go for it. [name_f]Evalina[/name_f] is a beautiful name, [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is still a very logical nickname and it’s not nearly as popular.
But I would also say that popularity is not what it once was. My close friend is a nursey nurse and she has yet to have two children in the same class with the same first name, even names that are in the top 10 and have been for years. She might be one of two Evas, but she’s just as likely to be the only one, and she’s unlikely to be one of four +.
So I live in the American south east and my daughter is [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], we call her [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and I have only come across 2 other girls with “eve” names since her birth and she will be 5 next month. One was [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] nickname [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and the other was the full name [name_f]Eve[/name_f]. [name_f]Eve[/name_f] was very recently and she was 3 years younger than my daughter. To give you some perspective, [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is in the top 300 now and I have still yet to come across another in real life.
I wouldn’t do it, tbh, not to set her apart. She’ll likely be [name_f]Eva[/name_f] with most people anyway so it’s likely not going to accomplish that but instead she’ll have to always tell people “just [name_f]Eva[/name_f]”; also with this spelling she’ll always have to spell out her name.
She may actually end up being called “[name_f]Evva[/name_f]” (ever) by people as it makes more sense sound-wise with [name_f]Evelina[/name_f]/[name_f]Evalina[/name_f] as a full name so you may end up losing [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
[name_f]Evalina[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] sounds beautiful and I think a great idea. You could also just call her by her full name -[name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I think that flows nice and since both [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] are short and sweet it is not a mouthful!
I really like the name [name_f]Evalina[/name_f] (however I would spell it [name_f]Evelina[/name_f]). At her age I don’t it would be a problem, especially because you will still call her [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
Of course it’s fine to change it if you would like to. Personally though I find the more streamlined and classic [name_f]Eva[/name_f] a more appealing name. [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] feels fussy to me, but I guess it’s just not my style. Popular or not, I’d rather be called [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
I think if you’re that concerned then it’s an easy enough fix to do now.
I personally prefer the simplicity and spunk of [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
I have a toddler and a baby and have yet to hear the name shouted at school or the playground (in the US). I know only one [name_f]Eva[/name_f] in her 40’s.
I agree name popularity is just not what it once was. There are so many more names being used now that #10 on the SSN list today probably equates to as many births as #30 a few decades ago.
I think [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is beautiful! If you’re sure you want to change it, I think it’s perfectly fine. Shes still young enough, and it’s not like you’re changing it completely. As someone with a popular name, I would’ve loved to have a different name to use in certain situations.
However, I do think [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is sweet and spunky. I have a young cousin named [name_f]Eve[/name_f], and it suits her very well (also dont think she goes to school with any other Eves/Evas)
Either way, I think the choice is up to you. I also dont think you can go wrong here. [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is stunning, and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is adorable.
Good luck!
I would just stick to [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. Although the sound is popular, I think [name_f]Eva[/name_f] sounds distinctive due to the hard ‘ee’ sound that starts its off.
You don’t have to change her name if you don’t want to! It’s a beautiful name. I would sometimes call her by both names, like people do in the South. And if there are other Evas in her class (which there might not be!) She could go by [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. [name_f]Eva[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f].
You could just consistently call her EvaJane. Like we had an [name_f]Ann[/name_f] and an [name_f]AnnMarie[/name_f] in the same class.
But look into the cost of a change to [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], I like it!!
