So since I was 12 years old my favorite boys name has been [name]Fox[/name] and it is still my favorite choice if I ever have a son.
I’m not worried about my son not liking it as a name (I’m the only girl on my moms side with 2 brothers and more cousins to count and any of them would have loved to be named [name]Fox[/name]).
I’m also not worried about other people not liking it cause I love it. What I AM worried about is people not taking me (or my son or his name) seriously because they think [name]Fox[/name] is too wild or out there. I guess I just don’t want people to think I’m this silly young hippie mom lol. (So I’m a little bit of a hippie but I’m responsible too!)
I’m a substitute teacher. I have heard MUCH more “out there” names than [name]Fox[/name]. It reminds me of [name]Fox[/name] Mulder on the X-Files, but that show was cool. I say use it!
Okay, I just realized some people might immediately think of [name]FOX[/name] the television station. I guess it depends on where you live and your political leanings to determine whether that’s a good thing or not!
I love the name [name]Fox[/name]! Though I would reserve it for the middle name spot. I would suggest using it in the middle so that he has a more appropriate name for legal reasons and et cetera, but calling him [name]Fox[/name] full time?
I agree on using it in the mn spot. I know a baby named Panther (way more out there than [name]Fox[/name] IMHO) but at least he has two mns to fall back on!
If I were you I’d use it as a middle name and call him that most of the time. I know plenty of people who go by their middle names full time and have no problem with it. Then you know teachers, employers, schools won’t judge him on his name (because they do) and you still get to use the name you love.
It’s not that out-there. It’s familiar & easily pronounced. It was made famous via X Files. It has a bit of a “[name]Silver[/name] [name]Fox[/name]”/"[name]Foxy[/name] Lady" sexy connotation though. I think the bottom line is your own confidence. All the names we use shape peoples perception of us and I think it will make people think different of you than if you used [name]Aiden[/name]. It all comes down to how you’ll feel introducing him. I think the name works for more than just a hippie boy!
I love [name]Fox[/name] though I prefer it for a girl. It’s definitely out there but there are way crazier names used everyday. If he ever feels [name]Fox[/name] isn’t appropriate he can go by “F. Middlename”, like F. [name]Scott[/name] [name]Fitzgerald[/name]
I think you should consider the suggestion of using it in the middle spot. I have known many people (mostly men) who went by their middle name with a more official first name. It would certainly make [name]Fox[/name] as a name easier for people to swallow. I disagree with the idea that [name]Fox[/name] would work better for a girl. As a masculine name, it makes me think of the animal. As a feminine name, it makes me think of the slang term “foxy”. Not an appropriate adjective for describing a little girl!
Thanks y’all! I guess I was trying to gage everyone’s response to it to see if there where any associations I couldn’t live with or pre-set thoughts on it that would make [name]Fox[/name] unuseable. I didn’t find a reason not too so thanks! I’m supper excited about using it in the future now (in the first name spot)!
Use it in the middle spot, or as a nickname. [name]IMO[/name], I would love to meet a little boy who goes by [name]Fox[/name], but if [name]Fox[/name] was his name then I would feel sorry for him. I think it works better on a boy.
Go for it! There’s nothing wrong with the name, even though it is a bit different. I would suggest using it as a middle name though, or if it’s settled to be a first name, give the kid some middle names to fall back on, just in case.
I do think it’s very cute and I would love to meet a boy named [name]Fox[/name].
However, my practical side says that it might be difficult to live with that as your full first name. People may switch first and last around, assume it’s a nickname, and likely scoff about it.
I say, if you’re prepared to handle the hassle and prepared to teach him how to, then go for it. But I do think it’s less accepted than other similar names: [name]Wolf[/name], [name]Hawk[/name], [name]Jett[/name], etc.
[name]Fox[/name] is a great first name imo. I know 2 children with animal names but they are both nicknames. I know a little boy named [name]Auberon[/name] who gets nicknamed [name]Bear[/name], and a little girl called [name]Bridgett[/name] who gets [name]Birdie[/name] so their nicknames kind of come from their real names. I think [name]Foster[/name] with the NN [name]Fox[/name] would be pretty awesome, as suggested above.
Having it as a middle name would be cool too (I know that my husband would think it was cool if his middle name was [name]Fox[/name].) and you could still refer to him as [name]Fox[/name]. Also, my daughters most commonly used NN is Lamb which has nothing to do with her actual name, and I think [name]Fox[/name] could work as a ‘pet name’ but it’s still a cool given name, too!
