Should popularity bother me if I love a name?

If popularity doesn’t bother you go ahead with it. I like the alternatives of [name_u]Piper[/name_u] and [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] as well.

If you love the name, 100% you should use it! It’s a beautiful name regardless of its popularity & would sound lovely with any of your chosen middles. Here’s some suggestions anyhow that you could consider:

[name_f]Hallie[/name_f]
[name_u]Harmony[/name_u]
[name_u]Holland[/name_u]
[name_f]Harlow[/name_f]
[name_u]Marlow[/name_u]
[name_f]Hera[/name_f]
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Arla[/name_f]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_f]Marla[/name_f]
[name_u]Marley[/name_u]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f]

I want to say “[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t let popularity sway you from the name you love!”

However… I feel like it would honestly sway me.

I thought I would never get over finding [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] off-limits due to the meaning, but I got over it.

Names that sounds like [name_u]Harper[/name_u] to me…

[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_u]Finley[/name_u]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_u]Emery[/name_u]
[name_u]Waverly[/name_u]

[name_u]Harper[/name_u] was actually our #1 name before I realized how popular it was. I still love the name but I live in [name_u]Harper[/name_u] central so it’d a no go for us. Popularity only has to matter if you want it to. Personally I dislike super popular names because I grew up as the only one of my name and would have hated to be 1 of 6 and always have to use my last initial to be identified. If going through that with your kid doesn’t bother you then use the name  if it’s going to drive you nuts I’d look into something else. I’d also look at what’s actually popular where you live or plan to raise your child. There may be tons of [name_u]Harper[/name_u]'s where I live but it may be less common in your area.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] to clarify I don’t dislike names just because they’re popular, I still like the name but wouldn’t consider using it for my child.

If you love it you love it. Id consider other names first but if youre dreaming of a little [name_u]Harper[/name_u] go for it. There are some popular names I like but I also like unpopular so I tend to want to choose anything out of top 200 at least. Thats just me. I love [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u], [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f], & [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]!

Thanks for all the replies! With [name_u]Harper[/name_u] being #6 for my state I would expect to know a ton of Harpers but don’t personally know any. I have seen it in birth announcements but none in my circle. We are most likely homeschooling so we probably don’t have to worry about her being one of three Harpers in her class. I really don’t want to open the can of worms of deciding on another name since my DH and I had a hard time agreeing. Also our family loves [name_u]Harper[/name_u] so I feel like everyone is getting attached to the idea. I feel about 90% sure that we’re gonna do it. My husband is really wanting [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] for the middle but I’m not sold.

It seems like your really attached to the idea of your baby being [name_u]Harper[/name_u]. If that’s really seeming like the name then I’d keep it. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if you homeschooling I assume you’ll want her to socialize in extra activities so she still might be a 1 in 6 but she may actually enjoy it!
[name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] doesn’t flow that well [name_f]IMO[/name_f] due to the “er” ending of [name_u]Harper[/name_u] and the “ar” beginning of [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]. It sort of mushes in the middle when I say it aloud. Looking at your list [name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] seems like a cute choice. Good luck on your search! :3

If you love it that much use it. You seem very fond of that name and I think if you don’t use it, you’ll probably regret it

[name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Lilianne[/name_f]

I love [name_u]Harper[/name_u] and all of the middles above with it. Like you, I think it needs a long, frilly name with it:) go with what you love … !!

[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]!

I just adore [name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Anabel[/name_f]! So cute!

Popularity doesn’t bother me as well. Back in 1998 I named my daughter [name_f]Maria[/name_f] (top name in my country then) because I love the name and I wanted to honour a beloved one. But I see that many people here on NameBerry consider too much a name’s popularity. I think that if it doesn’t bother you, you should use the name. My favourite combination of [name_u]Harper[/name_u] as a first name is [name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]. [name_u]Harper[/name_u] is not my style, I would use it in the middle, maybe [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_u]Harper[/name_u] or [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_u]Harper[/name_u]. But I like it more than [name_u]Piper[/name_u] (sorry but I dislike this name) and [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] (I don’t like names that end in -ley). [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] sounds like a nickname of [name_f]Adelheid[/name_f] for me. But since you like [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], why don’t you consider a longer version as a middle name ? [name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] sounds great.

I suggest you use the name you love regardless of popularity. There are more important things you should consider instead of how many people also love this name so much that they name their own children like that. I don’t think that popularity is something bad and that a name should be unique in order to love it. In my opinion you should use it.

Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!
