Should sibling names match?

I can see that, I suppose. To the average person, [name]Leonie[/name] is a very uncommon and surprising choice. It would be here anyway. And [name]Marigold[/name], [name]Veronica[/name], or Merit would also be uncommon choices. So I say either one would work fine with [name]Leonie[/name]. By the way, I [name]LOVE[/name] the name Merit and would love to hear it on a real little girl! It’s the best virtue name out there, in my opinion.

@rowangreeneyes I’m not really a virtue name fan…but I love Merit so much!

@stripedsocks if I ever do use [name]Veronica[/name] I would use nn Vinca…especially if she has blue eyes. I like the botanical connection & the saintly aspect.

The weirdness level thing makes sense. It seems like [name]Leonie[/name] & [name]Marigold[/name] are at the same level?

They would be about on par to me, yeah. I originally formulated my “weirdness level” because my sister had one of the Greatest Hits of the decade we were born in and I had a name no one could say or spell.

I think [name]Marigold[/name] and [name]Leonie[/name] are pretty well matched for unusual, but both clearly feminine, slightly offbeat, and a little old-fashioned choices. Merit feels more word-name and more androgynous but even though that is my least favourite of your combos it’s not as mismatched as [name]Leonie[/name] and [name]Ashleigh[/name] would be to me, where one is old-fashioned and underused and the other is popular and modern.

I would agree with this. I think there is some gray with how close is too close or far, but I think it’s a good idea to have names that feels at least equal as far as beauty and vaguely similar in style.

[name]Leonie[/name] is a very unfamiliar name to me. I’ve never met a single person with that name or even heard of one that I can remember. So something like [name]Veronica[/name] seems far more familiar. [name]Veronica[/name] gives me an image of a roller derby girl for some reason–like a tough chick with perfect lipstick. While I really have no image whatsoever for [name]Leonie[/name], I guess it has a sort of soft sound with a bit of spunk, like a mix of [name]Leann[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name].

Merit is very pretty but has a slightly harsher sound. [name]Nina[/name] I just don’t really like, it sounds insubstantial to me, probably because of the spanish word.

these all have a similar feel to me:
[name]Amelie[/name] - similar to [name]Leonie[/name], too close?
[name]Helena[/name] - bit more classical sounding
[name]Iris[/name] - more stately than [name]Marigold[/name] and more spunky
[name]Antonia[/name]
[name]Junia[/name]
[name]Corinne[/name]
[name]Noelle[/name]- too close?
[name]Renata[/name]

[name]Ida[/name]-[name]Simone[/name] has a very French smooth flow, whereas [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Beatrice[/name] sounds much heavier. I’d prefer something like [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Faye[/name] or [name]Beatrice[/name]-[name]Eve[/name].

[name]Antonia[/name] & [name]Corinne[/name] are names that I love & even considered for [name]Leonie[/name]!

The middle names are family names…we do have other names to play with, but those mean a lot to me. If I used [name]Marigold[/name] or Merit I feel like I honored [name]Mary[/name] so I would consider just picking a name for it’s sound or just one family name, like [name]Beatrice[/name].

[name]Leonie[/name] [name]Ida[/name]-[name]Simone[/name] & [name]Corinne[/name] [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] [name]Ida[/name]-[name]Simone[/name] & [name]Marigold[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] [name]Ida[/name]-[name]Simone[/name] & [name]Emmanuelle[/name] [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] [name]Ida[/name]-[name]Simone[/name] & [name]Emmanuelle[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] [name]Ida[/name]-[name]Simone[/name] & [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Beatrice[/name]

Other family names for middle combos:
[name]Jean[/name] / [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Robin[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] ([name]Frank[/name])
[name]David[/name]- haven’t found a good female version!

[name]Marigold[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] is gorgeous

[name]Corinne[/name] [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Davina[/name]
[name]Antonia[/name] [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Robin[/name]
[name]Corinne[/name] [name]Mary[/name]-Avid

I think siblings names should actively NOT match. The word i’d use would be ‘compliment’ one another…
I think [name]Leonie[/name] and [name]Nina[/name] are perfect together. [name]Both[/name] sound kind of European, to me, and have the ‘ee’ sound made by the I.
[name]Leonie[/name] and [name]Veronica[/name] are very different in style to me- [name]Leonie[/name] is kinda lighter and more laidback…[name]Veronica[/name] is more formal and a little heavier.

Thanks everyone! I never cared for any [name]David[/name] feminizations, but [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Davina[/name] sounds great!

I’m not too committed to sibling names “matching” as long as you love all their names and they dont rhyme or anything. The only thing that does bother me is when theres one unisex name in a set of girls…like if a family of three daughters is [name]Maria[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], and [name]Avery[/name]. I’d assume at first look that [name]Avery[/name] is a boy because the other girls have decidedly feminine names.

I might make that mistake with [name]Leonie[/name] & Merit.

Not a deal breaker obviously, just something to be prepared for and consider.

[name]Marigold[/name] works fine in my opinion, as do all your other names.

I’m really leaning toward [name]Marigold[/name], the name that so many family members hated when I was pregnant with [name]Leonie[/name].

Everyone thought it was crazy & [name]Goldie[/name] was hideous, but I love it and I’m starting to care less about what they think!

For what it’s worth, I really like [name]Leonie[/name] and [name]Marigold[/name] or [name]Leonie[/name] and [name]Veronica[/name] together. [name]Leonie[/name] and [name]Marigold[/name] share the same number of syllables, and [name]Leonie[/name] and [name]Veronica[/name] share 4 letters.

[name]Veronica[/name] seems to get a better response from my family…but I love [name]Marigold[/name] so much!

It really sounds like [name]Marigold[/name] is “the one”!

Go in with both and see, it’ll be tough for family to argue if she truly looks like a [name]Marigold[/name] and you’re so over the moon about the name. She doesnt have to be [name]Goldie[/name] to everyone, [name]Golda[/name], [name]Mari[/name], etc… even pet names related to the flower ([name]Sunny[/name] comes to mind) surely theyll find something they love to call her.

I love [name]Goldie[/name] and that’s the part that they aren’t into! I think [name]Sunny[/name] is adorable!
