Should we go with a popular name or not, with such a weird last name?

What name works best with our last name? Jelly

I think [name]Madeleine[/name] works best with Jelley, though it’s not necessarily my favorite on its own from your list.
I don’t think you need a popular name with it necessarily though.
I do think [name]Tea[/name] Jelley is odd to read although saying it sounds fine.

Yeah unfortunately I think you’re right about avoiding [name]Tea[/name] Jelly. I don’t think you need to pick a popular name; if I were in your situation I would avoid ones that end with “ee” sound or look like some food/other item. I like [name]Juliet[/name] but am not a fan of alliteration. For those reasons I think [name]Madeline[/name] is the best choice on your list. Best wishes!

I might go with something like [name]Marianne[/name] Jelley (there’s a hidden ‘angel’ in there). [name]Madeleine[/name] is my favorite from your list. Best wishes!

Hmm, I don’t think Jelley needs a popular first name, or even a particularly recognizable name. If your last name were tough in a hard-to-spell way, I’d recommend you pick a first that can be spelled easily, but I think Jelley has some wiggle room. That said, I too think [name]Madeleine[/name] sounds prettiest with Jelley. [name]Cecily[/name] and [name]Sophie[/name] share Jelley’s ending sound (esp. [name]Cecily[/name]), which I find a little rhymey and redundant. Téa is gorgeous, but too food-related to go with Jelley. And while I usually like alliteration, [name]Julia[/name] Jelley walks the edge between pretty and cartoony a little too closely for my taste. [name]Madeleine[/name] is elegant and familiar (and this is my favorite spelling!). I think you’ve got plenty of pet name options besides the popular [name]Maddie[/name]; [name]Della[/name], [name]Leina[/name]/[name]Lena[/name], Linney, [name]Mellie[/name], [name]Addie[/name], etc. are sweet. And there are lots of great middles that would sound nice. [name]Do[/name] you have any family favorites, or places that are important to you, etc? Otherwise these work [name]IMO[/name]:

[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Lucia[/name] Jelley
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Alice[/name] Jelley
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Mae[/name] Jelley
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] Jelley
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Harper[/name] Jelley
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Blair[/name] Jelley or [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Clare[/name] Jelley
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Louise[/name] Jelley
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Julia[/name] Jelley (I like [name]Julia[/name] in the middle! and MJ is kinda fun)
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Renee[/name] Jelley

Another thought: would you consider spelling Téa as [name]Thea[/name]? They’re pronounced the same in certain countries, like [name]France[/name]. It would likely be mispronounced as THEE-ah on people’s first read of it, but then again, so would Téa (“uh, is it ‘tee’?”). [name]Thea[/name] Jelley might take care of the food-association problem, at least as far as reading it goes, and you could say it as “tay-uh”.

[name]Thea[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name] Jelley
[name]Thea[/name] [name]Vivian[/name] Jelley
[name]Thea[/name] [name]Frances[/name] Jelley or [name]Thea[/name] [name]Francesca[/name] Jelley
[name]Thea[/name] [name]Lillian[/name] Jelley
[name]Thea[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] Jelley
[name]Thea[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] Jelley
[name]Thea[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] Jelley

For other suggestions, here are a few:
[name]Linnea[/name] Jelley - You get some of Téa’s sound plus the soft, feminine sounds that hearken to [name]Lily[/name], [name]Ella[/name], the end of [name]Madeleine[/name], etc. I think [name]Linnea[/name] Jelley is amazing, and Linney or [name]Lea[/name] (rhymes with Téa) are great nns. [name]Linnea[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name] Jelley or [name]Linnea[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] Jelley would be fabulous!!!
[name]Anneliese[/name] Jelley
[name]Miranda[/name] Jelley
[name]Cecilia[/name] Jelley (I think it flows better than [name]Cecily[/name])
[name]Evelyn[/name] Jelley
[name]Alice[/name] Jelley
[name]Carys[/name] Jelley
[name]Rebecca[/name] Jelley
[name]Merida[/name] Jelley or [name]Meredith[/name] Jelley
[name]Adeline[/name] Jelley
[name]Emmeline[/name] Jelley

I think that [name]Cecily[/name] (even though it’s beautiful) and [name]Sophie[/name] should be avoided because of the “-ey” at the end of your last name, and I’m not a fan of alliteration so I’d say that [name]Juliet[/name]/[name]Julia[/name] is also out. I agree that [name]Tea[/name] Jelley would sound fine, but look kind of strange. [name]Madeleine[/name] definitely seems like the best choice from the list you’ve given, and [name]Cecile[/name] would also work (although is has a somewhat different sound to [name]Cecily[/name]).

What do you think of:
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Hope[/name] Jelley (similar vibe to [name]Grace[/name])
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Clare[/name] Jelley
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Fleur[/name] Jelley (my fav!)
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Page[/name] Jelley

It wasn’t an option, but I really like the sound of [name]Cecelia[/name] Jelley. I think a slightly longer first name that doesn’t end in “ee” balances the last name nicely.

You absolutely do not have to choose a popular first name because you have an unusual last name, although with yours I think it would be best to avoid names even resembling common words. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with popular names. I vote for [name]Madeleine[/name].

I like the suggestion of using [name]Thea[/name] spelling instead of [name]Tea[/name], that was my first thought. [name]Theresa[/name] or [name]Tessa[/name] would be really nice, too…[name]Tea[/name]/[name]Thea[/name] would be a nice nn for [name]Theresa[/name] (or [name]Theodora[/name]).

I don’t really like the alliteration of [name]Julia[/name]/[name]Juliet[/name] Jelley, it’s a bit cutesy, and [name]Sophie[/name] and [name]Cecily[/name] both have the same ee sound as Jelley…not bad, just not my favorite, flow-wise. Of your list, my favorites are [name]Tea[/name]/[name]Thea[/name] and [name]Madeleine[/name].

I don’t think you need an.especially common name to work well with Jelley. [name]Just[/name] avoid noun and descriptive names, mostly.

Other ideas: [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Abigail[/name], [name]Bridget[/name], [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Susan[/name]/[name]Susanna[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Gwendolyn[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Rebecca[/name], [name]Katherine[/name], [name]Natasha[/name], [name]Lia[/name]/[name]Leah[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Laura[/name], [name]Alexandra[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Esther[/name], [name]Caitlin[/name], [name]Dinah[/name], [name]Fiona[/name]

Agreed–[name]Marianne[/name] Jelly would be absolutely gorgeous!

I love the name [name]Madeleine[/name], but it’s also the name of a type of little French cake , so probably the same issue as with Téa.

I think [name]Madeline[/name] is the perfect name with your last name!

Any other suggestions?

[name]Bridget[/name] had been on our list, but my husband thought that the initials BJ would invite ridicule.

I still love it, though

I wouldn’t rule out [name]Bridget[/name].

There are plenty of people with BJ as initials. If they have a dirty mind that’s THEIR problem.
