Should we run with this name?

We have almost decided on the name [name_f]Cybil[/name_f] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] for our daughter. We love both of these names and I’m mostly seeking feedback on the combination, how they flow together.

Other details: No siblings. [name_f]Cybil[/name_f] would be pronounced the same as [name_f]Sybil[/name_f]. We are avoiding the S spelling out of consideration for her initials, as our last name starts with an L! The last name is 1 syllable.

Thanks in advance!

[name_f]Cybil[/name_f] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] is gorgeous. It has a really nice flow and rhythm. 2-3-1 is a decent syllable combo as well.

I say go for it! Can’t wait to see her pop up on the Announcements board!

I don’t get what’s bad about [name_m]SOL[/name_m]?

Anyway, I think [name_f]Cybil[/name_f] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] is a very majestic, pretty name. One to live up to for sure, but in this generation it will fit right in, while also standing out. I actually prefer [name_f]Cybil[/name_f]/[name_f]Cybele[/name_f] with a C - it feels fresher and less old lady/Trelawney.

I like it! I do think the [name_m]Cy[/name_m]- spelling is a bit confusing. At first glance it reminded me of [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] and cypress and other words that start with a “sigh” sound. But it seems perfectly usable if the initials are important to you. (I get it, but don’t think [name_m]SOL[/name_m] is that noticeably bad.)

I think [name_f]Cybil[/name_f] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous! Wonderful flow and I think [name_f]Cybil[/name_f] and [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] compliment each other really, really well. I can imagine both names on a strong, independent girl/woman who knows her own mind, and the combo just sounds beautiful. I’m not a big fan of the spelling (and I did have to google to find out what was wrong with the initials) but if it would really bother you then it’s not bad. Either way I love how [name_f]Cybil[/name_f] sounds, which is what’s important.

[name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it! [name_f]Sybil[/name_f]/[name_f]Cybil[/name_f]/[name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] however it is spelled is one of my favorite names! I think you might be overthinking the initials, tbh - the first thing that came to mind was the Latin word for sun (which is still the main word for sun in most Romance and Scandinavian languages) and I had to think to get to “shit out of luck” - and I’m still not even sure that’s what you’re worried about! So I don’t think that should determine your choice of spelling. But ultimately either is lovely!

[name_m]SOL[/name_m] is not near as bad as SOB. I knew a girl with those initials and it wasn’t good for her. [name_m]SOL[/name_m] wouldn’t even bother me.

Side note: My dd’s initials are BRA and no one cares. If they ever do end up saying anything, they’re probably miserable people with nothing better to do than pick you apart. And those people aren’t worth your time.
