Shura as a standalone name?

I know [name_u]Shura[/name_u] is technically a Russian diminutive for Alexandra… but could it work on its own?

Also, middle name recs?

[name_u]Sasha[/name_u] is used on its own so I think so :person_shrugging: I’m not Russian, however - so hopefully someone else will be able to help you out better from that perspective

Not sure if you wanted masc/fem/unisex/all middles, so…

That would be unexpected, granted it does sound and look like a name on its own. Russian diminutives are used in specific contexts to communicate relationship, affection and meaning. It’s a different convention to nickname practices elsewhere in the world. Using [name_u]Shura[/name_u] on its own would essentially be taking the name out of context. [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] is different as it belongs to many European languages.

I think something like [name_u]Shura[/name_u] [name_f]Ophelie[/name_f], [name_u]Shura[/name_u] [name_f]Cecile[/name_f], [name_u]Shura[/name_u] [name_f]Héloïse[/name_f] would sound lovely.

It could absolutely work. If we have [name_f]Shuri[/name_f] in the namesphere, we can definitely have [name_u]Shura[/name_u]. It’s a gorgeous name.

I can’t think of middles as of yet. I think maybe a 3 syllable middle would work well with it.

I know multiple people named Shira, so Shura doesn’t seem out of place to me as a standalone. While the names have different origins, they have quite similar sounds.
