What do you think, Berries? [name]Do[/name] you like Shya or Shaya? [name]One[/name] more than the other? Neither? What would you think if you met a Shya or a Shaya? Personal opinions please!
From your choices I would choose Shya, though my favorite spelling of the name is [name]Shia[/name]. It’s a great name
Neither.
What about [name]Shea[/name]?
I love [name]Shia[/name]/h for a boy but the name feels tacky and dated on a girl. The unnecessary Y doesn’t help
I’d go with Shaya - but I may be biased as I know the cutest little girl with this name!
Neither of these names, Shaya or Shya, have ever appeared in the US Top 1000 names. I don’t see how they could be “dated” in that sense but I understand that might just be the feel of the name. [name]Shea[/name] has been on there from 1970-2006, for Boys, with the height of it’s use being from 1984-1988 when it hovered in the 500’s. The use of [name]Shea[/name] for Girls hovered around the 700’s in the 90’s but never got higher than #698 in 1997. [name]Shea[/name] appeals to me but if I were to want it pronounced “[name]Shay[/name]-a” I would be forever correcting people’s assumed pronounciation. Would that really be better than just spelling it Shaya?
I think there will be less of a pronounciation issue with Shya rather than [name]Shia[/name] (I am saying them both the same way, “Shy-a”) and I am very truned off by the Nameberry blurb on [name]Shia[/name]: “The meaning and origin of the name are disputed, though the actor has been quoted as saying he’s embarrassed by its meaning in French: another four-letter word starting with s.” That’s a pretty big deal breaker for me on [name]Shia[/name]. Does anyone have any experience with what the international opinion of the name [name]Shia[/name] is?
Any other thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions? Thanks everyone.
Because in elementary school (late 80s/early 90s) I knew a ton of girls called [name]Shay[/name]/[name]Shayla[/name]/[name]Shai[/name]/Shya and so on. Most were nn but some were their full name. On a girl, [name]Shia[/name] and [name]Shea[/name] sound very 80s
