Sib set Alaina and Elise - too similar??

We are expecting our little one anytime now and still can’t come up with a name for her! Her big sis is [name]Alaina[/name] ([name]Lainey[/name]). We love the name [name]Elise[/name], although I feel that the two are quite similar and wish we didn’t like the name so much. Are they too similar? What are some names that sound good with [name]Alaina[/name]/[name]Lainey[/name] otherwise?

Thank you in advance for your opinions and suggestions!!

Yeah, they are similar but it shouldn’t be a deal-breaker if you love the name. Since [name]Alaina[/name] is called [name]Lainey[/name], would [name]Elise[/name] be given the nn [name]Ellie[/name]?

Other Suggestions

[name]Elodie[/name]/[name]Melody[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Emma[/name]/[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Carys[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Camille[/name]
[name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Noelle[/name]
[name]Maris[/name]
[name]Meredith[/name]
[name]Cassia[/name]

Yes/No.
I think it depends a little on your accent. I definitely pronounce the E and A differently - in which case I think they are cute together.
But, if you say them very similarly then they are a little closer than I would like.

Thank you! You have great taste in names! Many of your suggestions were on our list! If we ended up with [name]Elise[/name], we’d either just stick with [name]Elise[/name] or call her [name]Lise[/name] for short or possibly [name]Ellie[/name]. It’s so tough when you love a name just as much you question it (with [name]Alaina[/name])!

[name]Elodie[/name]/[name]Melody[/name] - like
[name]Eloise[/name] - pretty but more old fashioned than we want
[name]Emma[/name]/[name]Emmeline[/name] - [name]One[/name] of my favorites and my grandma’s name, but out due to popularity and our last name starting with M.
[name]Carys[/name] - Very pretty, we just prefer others over it.
[name]Fiona[/name] - Beautiful, but when asked for input by friends, they could only picture the ogre in Shrek.
[name]Camille[/name] - Our other top choice! We just can’t picture calling her [name]Cami[/name] or [name]Milly[/name] and know we’d probably want to shorten it somehow. Also not sure of the heavy “-eel” sound.
[name]Celeste[/name] - Pretty, but a bit too formal.
[name]Noelle[/name] - I like, but not as much as others…I think because of the “No” at the beginning.
[name]Maris[/name] - NMS
[name]Meredith[/name] - timeless and beautiful, yet NMS
[name]Cassia[/name] - NMS

Our top three favorites are [name]Elise[/name], [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Camille[/name] ([name]Elise[/name] still being the favorite). [name]Audrey[/name] is in the top 25-50 here in the states. It also has the downside of being about as popular as [name]Aubrey[/name], which is climbing the charts and makes both names seem twice as popular due to how similar they are. We’re really at a crossroads as we’re down to the wire and just want to have a name she can grow with that we love!

It is so funny that [name]Camille[/name] and [name]Elise[/name] are both top contenders for you, because that is my name! [name]Camille[/name] [name]Elise[/name] ___! Crazy!

Anyway, I don’t think that [name]Alaina[/name] and [name]Elise[/name] are too similar at all! But I pronounce [name]Elise[/name] ee-leece, not a-leece. That makes a difference, I suppose. [name]How[/name] do you pronounce it?

Ultimately its up to you but I will tell you that in high school I played soccer with a pair of sisters: [name]Cheyanne[/name] and [name]Shaylee[/name]. We got them mixed up all the time espically since the nn’s were [name]Shay[/name] and [name]Chey[/name]. They hated it.

I think that [name]Alaina[/name] and [name]Elise[/name] sound great together. They definitely make for a sing-songy pair, but I don’t think they’re too similar or would be likely to be confused for one another. If you love [name]Elise[/name], go for it!
