My husband and I have been blessed with two darling children: [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (3), and [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] (9M). We tend to call them [name_u]Gus[/name_u] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] most of the time. It is just a coincidence that their names are of [name_m]German[/name_m] heritage, we aren’t [name_m]German[/name_m], just love the names.
We’ll be trying for a third within the next year sometime, and because I love names, I can’t help but look forward to what we could name our next little one(s). Twins run in our family, too, so we can’t rule that out! Haha.
Other names we really love are:
Girls: [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosalia[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
Boys: [name_m]Miles[/name_m]/[name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_m]Orrin[/name_m]/[name_m]Oren[/name_m]/[name_m]Orin[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Otto[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m]
I think we have pretty classic/old-fashion taste. I also have a bit of a quirk where I don’t want any children to share initials. So no A/W names.
Any other suggestions? Or any names on our list that pop out as really horrible/awesome choices with our current kids?
One of my favorite names is [name_u]Reed[/name_u], my brother’s name. It can also be spelled [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. It’s classic, but unique, distinctive, short and sweet. Although once in a blue moon I hear of someone else with that name, particularly with the [name_u]Reid[/name_u] spelling, we’ve only ever met one other person named [name_u]Reed[/name_u]. I suppose it could also be used for a girl, following the trend of unisex names. My brother’s middle name is [name_m]Kenneth[/name_m], for my father.
I also particularly like the name of [name_u]Allyn[/name_u], for a girl. I know a woman with that name and have never met or heard of any other woman by the same name. It’s unique, but not ‘out there’, and to me sounds rather classic (and classy).
My mother’s name was Jacolyn Rita, my grandmothers were Helen Lucinda and Anna Josefina.
[name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] are both strong and majestic choices so I think these names on your list would be wonderful with their names
Boys: [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (my fave), [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m] ([name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] both contain similar sounds to [name_u]August[/name_u] but you have them on your list so I’m guessing you don’t care. My ears often hear matchy sounds in names that other people don’t hear! :)).
Suggestions
[name_f]Frederica[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]/[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]/[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Dagmar[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]/[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] (if you don’t mind that [name_u]August[/name_u]'s mn is [name_m]Henry[/name_m])
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]/[name_m]Edgar[/name_m]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m] (if pronounced the [name_m]French[/name_m] way = “loo-ee”)
[name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m]
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_m]Maximilian[/name_m]
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]
[name_m]Emmanuel[/name_m]
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m]
[name_m]Victor[/name_m]
I like [name_m]Orin[/name_m] a lot from your list, I think it has the quirkiness your other kids names have
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] also seems like a pretty much perfect option, and my favourite girls option is [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalia[/name_f]
From your list:
Girls: [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
Boys: [name_m]Otto[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
I think all your names are great, if you do want to stick with the [name_m]German[/name_m] theme, I’d go for:
[name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] (more [name_m]German[/name_m] spelling would be [name_f]Luise[/name_f])
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Eurydice[/name_f] and [name_m]Broderick[/name_m]? You could nickname a girl Eury or Dicey for [name_f]Eurydice[/name_f]. And a boy could be [name_m]Brody[/name_m] or [name_m]Brock[/name_m].
From your list, I would use [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Otis[/name_m] nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u], & [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] (pronounced either [name_f]Nell[/name_f] or [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]). There was a [name_m]German[/name_m] exchange student at my daughter’s school this year named [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] ([name_f]Nellie[/name_f]), so I know the name’s used in Germany.
I like the pp.'s suggestion of [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]/[name_f]Cecily[/name_f].
What about [name_f]Johanna[/name_f]?
Names from my [name_m]German[/name_m] heritage include [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] (my grandmother), [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] (her grandmother), [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] (her great-grandmother), [name_f]Maria[/name_f] Salomina nn [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], Aelilia ([name_f]Lil[/name_f]), [name_f]Barbara[/name_f], [name_f]Sabina[/name_f] [name_f]Margarete[/name_f], & [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] for girls; [name_m]Carl[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] (my great-grandfather), [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] (pronounced FREED-er-ick), & a whole host of Michaels, [name_m]Georges[/name_m], & Leonards.
I love [name_m]Otto[/name_m] and [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]! You have beautiful taste, by the way :).
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and:
