[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there! I’m mom to 2 boys and my husband and I just found out we’re finally getting a little girl We’ve had girl names picked out in the past but we’re a bit rusty as you could probably imagine. Our two sons are named after family members and each carry 2 middle names. That is a tradition in our family but only for the men so our little girl will most likely only have 1 middle. Our boys are:
and we have a short (very short) list of girl names we like so you can get a sense of our “style” but suggestions are encouraged and greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Nola[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_f]India[/name_f] (my favorite, my husband thinks it’s too “out there”)
I love [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]! I think [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] flow together super nicely, but [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is getting pretty popular (especially when I see it next to [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]).
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Graham[/name_m] and [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] [name_u]Lionel[/name_u] – like the firsts, [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the middles.
I like all the girl choices except [name_f]Nola[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].
[name_f]Nola[/name_f] sounds like Nolo or No or YOLO to me. A negative sound.
And [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] does not sound like a full name to me.
[name_f]India[/name_f] is actually my favorite, though there are folks who believe it is not OK to use it as a name. You would have to make that decision beforehand.
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] gets my vote from your list. I also like [name_f]Clara[/name_f]… I’d probably give her two middles just for fun let’s see… You may like…
I love your sons names. I got so excited when I saw this post.
Suggestions for the girls:
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_u]Indiana[/name_u] (bit more grounded than [name_f]India[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Islay[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nola[/name_f]?
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
Thanks for the suggestions!
I like [name_f]Flora[/name_f] but it sounds like I’m saying “floral” without the 2nd “L” so I don’t know…it doesn’t roll off the tongue for me.
I like [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f] (too twilight?), [name_f]Eleonora[/name_f], and I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_u]Indiana[/name_u]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] is more usable than [name_f]India[/name_f]?
I absolutely adore your sons’ names! You’ll need something very spectacular for your daughter.
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]- It’s lovely and flows very nicely with the boys, but I feel like it’s too popular sounding next to them.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]- This is very nice.
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]- [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] makes a great sibling set.
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]- Again, too popular.
[name_f]Nola[/name_f]- I don’t think it fits.
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]- It’s a nickname, and although I like it, [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] doesn’t sound complete paired with [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m].
[name_f]India[/name_f]- I think this is great! It matches your style perfectly: a little quirky but not unheard of. [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] seems a little masculine to me, a la [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] [name_m]Jones[/name_m].
[name_u]August[/name_u] & [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] are an awesome pair! I really only love [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] with them from your list. I feel like you need another strong, quirky, not too popular name to stand up to them. I love the suggestion of [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].
I also don’t love repeating initials, so instead of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] would suggest [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]. Not only is she less popular but also strikes me as stonger/less cutesy. (I do love [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] though!)
A few others: [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], [name_f]Georgina[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] (despite popularity, this one sounds really good), [name_f]Miranda[/name_f]…
From your list I like [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] best with [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]. The others seem a little bit safe and informal in comparison to your sons names. To me you need something strong and a bit quirky.
I also prefer [name_f]Indira[/name_f] to [name_f]India[/name_f] or [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] (though I prefer [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] to [name_f]India[/name_f]).
What about:
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanora[/name_f]
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]/t
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] ([name_f]Thea[/name_f])
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Talitha[/name_f] ([name_u]Tallie[/name_u])
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]/a
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f]
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] ([name_f]Pippa[/name_f])
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
I think [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] may work better for your family because I feel it nullifies the possibility that it could offend someone and it has a sweet, homegrown feel. It also has a ton of nicknames, if that’s your thing. It seems very genuine and I like it a lot with your boys names
I’m really liking [name_u]Indiana[/name_u]. I’m just trying to determine how usable it really is. Does anyone know someone with this name? Is [name_f]Indy[/name_f] a cute nickname?
I’m still liking these too:
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
& [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
