Hubby and I are expecting our second child in February. Our ‘official’ anatomy scan is next week, but a 15 week ultrasound leads us to believe we’re expecting a girl. Here’s a list of names I like and that my husband doesn’t hate, to give you a frame of reference for style:
My favorites right now are [name]Kaia[/name] and [name]Abrielle[/name]. Our last name is Halbrooks (pronounced [name]Hal[/name]-brooks, not Holbrooks :D) Frankly, I’m kind of lost. I welcome all your FN and MN suggestions!
I don’t think [name]Kaia[/name] is usable with a brother called [name]Cade[/name]. LIkewise, [name]ABRielle[/name] and HALBRooks share a lot of sounds…
You seem to have gravitated towards feminine, lacy names. With a surname like Halbrooks, you really have a blank slate-- though three syllables would seem to be the utter limit.
[name]Cade[/name] and [name]Kaia[/name] are a bit similar, but I don’t think they’re unusable together. I like [name]Katherine[/name], [name]Cara[/name], and [name]Natalie[/name] as well. What about [name]Amelia[/name] or [name]Lydia[/name]? Maybe [name]Lyra[/name], [name]Mila[/name], or [name]Mara[/name]?
ETA: I thought of [name]Clara[/name] after I posted…
My impulse is to say the first family, but really, I’m open to all kinds of suggestions- even less feminine or unisex names. Of the names you listed, blade, I like
[name]Alana[/name] (I also like [name]Ilana[/name])
[name]Olivia[/name] (I consider this one to be too popular to be usable, though)
[name]Mia[/name] (love the sound… but the meaning is “bitter”! Yuck!)
[name]Juliet[/name] (likewise, love the sound, but dislike the meaning)
[name]Celeste[/name] (Beautiful, but both my husband and I are uncomfortable with the teasing potential)
Thanks so much for being willing to help me form a direction here!
I really like [name]Mila[/name], southern.maple. My husband is pretty… conservative… when it comes to names, and has already nixed this one. I’m open to names that are different, such as [name]Ophelia[/name]. He is totally early eighties- [name]Heather[/name], [name]Jennifer[/name], etc. NMS! I think that’s why I feel so lost on where to go from here!
Also, they’ve been super popular for forever, but I still like:
[name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]
As a side note, I tried to figure out what exactly it is about my naming style that he doesn’t like- I’m more amused and surprised than offended by hubby’s comment. Makes me think about the psychology of names. Anyway, I think his naming style is ‘eighties and boring’ and he thinks my style is ‘rich girl names that belong on Toddlers and Tiaras’. It took us [name]FOREVER[/name] to agree on [name]Cade[/name] for our son- mainly I came up with names and he shot them down. I feel like we’re just going to end up going with something neither of us dislikes, rather than something we both love. Boo.
