Sibling for Caleb and Lydia

[name]Hi[/name] all! This is my first post here and I really need your help!! I am currently 23 weeks pregnant with baby #3 and DH and I feel like we are no closer to choosing names than when we first started thinking about them. To make matters harder, we are team green, which means we need a name for each gender!

We have a 4 year old, [name]Caleb[/name] [name]Michael[/name], and an 18 month old, [name]Lydia[/name] [name]May[/name]. I just love each of their names so much and can’t seem to find something that fits in the sib-set that I love. As you can see, we like pretty “normal” traditionally spelled names.

Here are a few we have considered:

Girls:
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Adelle[/name] (DH’s Gma’s middle name)
[name]Moriah[/name]
[name]Kathryn[/name]

Boys:
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Nathan[/name]
[name]David[/name] (my Dad’s name)
[name]Hudson[/name]

I am looking forward to your feedback!

We have similar tastes, it seems!

[name]Kathryn[/name] is one of my very favorite names. Given how very traditional [name]Caleb[/name]'s and [name]Lydia[/name]'s middles are, I think [name]Kathryn[/name] would do well in a middle spot. I don’t think [name]Moriah[/name] would work well; it’s too nontraditional a spelling for me to really approve. On the other hand, [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Kathryn[/name] or [name]Adelle[/name] [name]Kathryn[/name] would be lovely.

Honestly, any of your boy names would work really well in combination with any of the others. [name]Nathan[/name] I like somewhat less than your other choices. [name]David[/name] is definitely my favorite. [name]David[/name] [name]Hudson[/name] sounds really smart.

I like [name]Adele[/name], with one L, very much. It’s sweet and vintage like [name]Caleb[/name] and [name]Lydia[/name], but very distinct from them phonetically. [name]Adele[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] (are you stuck on the abbreviated [name]Kathryn[/name]? I think [name]Katherine[/name], [name]Katharine[/name] or [name]Catherine[/name] are more elegant) is a gorgeous name.

For the boys, I like the courtly [name]Elliott[/name] (two Ts?) very much. Perhaps you could use your dad’s name in the middle in [name]Elliott[/name] [name]David[/name]?

I love [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Lydia[/name], and [name]Adelle[/name]! The L sounds really tie the sibset together nicely. You might spell it [name]Adele[/name] more traditionally, but I can understand wanting to keep her spelling, too. [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Adele[/name] would also be pretty. I would go with [name]Nathan[/name] or [name]David[/name]; both keep with [name]Caleb[/name] and [name]Lydia[/name]'s Biblical style.

I think [name]Kathryn[/name] [name]Adelle[/name] is gorgeous and I have thought of this name on my own before. [name]Love[/name] it.

[name]Just[/name] my opinions, all these names are fine, but when I think about it …

Girls:
[name]Caroline[/name] - nice, but a little similar to [name]Caleb[/name]
[name]Adelle[/name] (DH’s Gma’s middle name) - This is lovely and matches perfectly.
[name]Moriah[/name] - this is not what I would call a normal name. [name]Lydia[/name] and [name]Moriah[/name] together seem darker, somehow, or mediavel.
[name]Kathryn[/name] - I like this name too, it has a different letter (although the same sound as [name]Caleb[/name]) and a different end sound.

Boys:
[name]Elliot[/name] - OK
[name]Nathan[/name] - nice
[name]David[/name] (my Dad’s name) - nice
[name]Hudson[/name] - much more modern than his siblings.

[name]Both[/name] your current kids have lesser-used biblical names. Have you thought about
[name]Miriam[/name]
[name]Esther[/name]
[name]Bethany[/name]
or —
[name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Adam[/name]
[name]Eli[/name]

I think we would keep the two L’s in [name]Adelle[/name] to honor Gma, although I realize it might be confusing

With [name]Elliot[/name], I think I prefer it with two T’s on its own too, blade, but our last name is short and has double letters and looks too much or me. What do you think?

We are not stuck on the spelling of [name]Kathryn[/name] at all, in fact [name]Katherine[/name] was our original thought. Is it too long a name? Though we would most likely call her [name]Kate[/name].

Ellenelle, I hadn’t thought of the L tying all 3 names together!

I agree with earlier suggestions of Adele Katherine! I really like David for a boy. I think both of these names would fit beautifully with your older children’s names.

I don’t think [name]Katherine[/name] is too long a name at all (I personally prefer [name]Kathryn[/name], but I know I’m in the minority), and [name]Kate[/name] is my favorite nickname.

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions! I feel like I have looked at all the biblical style names and just don’t love any (or else they ate too popular here right now). Your ideas were good possibilities, but they have all been denied for one reason or another.

My only hang up with [name]David[/name] is that I feel like it might be too boring? Am I way out in left field? I don’t really like [name]Dave[/name] or [name]Davy[/name] so he would be [name]David[/name].

I don’t think [name]Adelle[/name] is confusing, but the standard spelling is [name]Adele[/name] and of course the popular singer spells it that way as well. At worst your daughter will simply have to say “[name]Adelle[/name]-with-two-Ls” which is hardly th end of the world, especially with such a meaningful connection.

[name]Elliot[/name] ‘[name]Cass[/name]’ or [name]Elliot[/name] ‘[name]Todd[/name]’ doesn’t look much different to my eye from [name]Elliott[/name] [name]Cass[/name], but if your name ends in a double T then I would, definitely agree with you.

I really like the longer [name]Katherine[/name] versus contracted [name]Kathryn[/name]. They’re pronounced identically (most people drop the middle syllable) but it looks more elegant, I think.

From your list, I like [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Adelle[/name], or [name]Kathryn[/name]; or [name]Elliot[/name], [name]Nathan[/name], or [name]David[/name] best with [name]Caleb[/name] and [name]Lydia[/name]. The combination of [name]Adelle[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] is lovely and [name]David[/name] [name]Elliot[/name] or [name]Elliot[/name] [name]David[/name] work well too. I don’t think [name]David[/name] is too boring-- it’s not used very much now but is a timeless classic.

Some other possibilities:

[name]Caleb[/name], [name]Lydia[/name], and

[name]Alice[/name], [name]Amity[/name], [name]Constance[/name], [name]Dorothy[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Helen[/name], [name]Hope[/name], [name]Irene[/name], [name]Grace[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Mary[/name], [name]Natalie[/name], [name]Priscilla[/name], [name]Susan[/name]/[name]Susannah[/name], [name]Tabitha[/name], [name]Thais[/name], [name]Verity[/name]

or

[name]Abram[/name], [name]Abner[/name], [name]Adam[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Edward[/name], [name]Frederick[/name], [name]Gideon[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Jonah[/name], [name]Matthew[/name], [name]Marcus[/name], [name]Peter[/name], [name]Philip[/name], [name]Seth[/name], [name]Silas[/name], [name]Simon[/name], [name]Stephen[/name], [name]Theo[/name], [name]Tobias[/name]

From your list I like [name]Moriah[/name] for girls and [name]Nathan[/name] for boys

My [name]Caleb[/name] is 4, too and I would totally consider [name]Elliot[/name] if I were to have another boy, I think they work so beautifully with each other (and a sister [name]Lydia[/name]). Off the girls, I love [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Adelle[/name] for you, I would likely do [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Adelle[/name], personally - I think [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Lydia[/name] make such perfect sisters and [name]Caleb[/name] fits in really nicely.

Some other ideas:

[name]Abigail[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Claire[/name] / [name]Clara[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name]
[name]Madeline[/name]

[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Levi[/name]
[name]Josiah[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]

[name]Flick[/name], you have pegged me very well! I love all of your name suggestions!

Keep the feedback coming, everyone, I am finding it very helpful! [name]Just[/name] another thing to add, we love first names with meaning ([name]Caleb[/name] is bold and [name]Lydia[/name] is noble). Middle names have been family names. Thanks!

I love your names! The only other thing I could suggest is [name]Adelaide[/name] for a girl! Congrats!

For boys, I like [name]David[/name] or [name]Nathan[/name].

Girls, [name]Adelle[/name] or [name]Caroline[/name] but I’d use a biblical style middle name if not for a first name.
I know a lot of biblical names are popular right now but I can only think of one [name]Abbie[/name] and one [name]Elizabeth[/name] that I know. I also know a [name]Lydia[/name] and quite a few Calebs.

Other traditional but not overly popular Biblical names: [name]Julia[/name], [name]Joanna[/name], [name]Susanna[/name], [name]Naomi[/name], [name]Rhoda[/name], [name]Tabitha[/name]…

Best of luck!

I think the names with family connections ae great and go well with your other children’s names

[name]Caleb[/name], [name]Lydia[/name], and [name]Adelle[/name]
[name]Caleb[/name] [name]Lydia[/name], And [name]David[/name]

I don’t think [name]David[/name] is too boring now as he is not likely to have many other [name]David[/name]'s in class in school.

I also like [name]Elliot[/name] and [name]Nathan[/name] on your list and I don’t think you could go wrong choosing either of those. [name]Elliot[/name] [name]David[/name] and [name]Nathan[/name] [name]David[/name] both sound great.

I can’t think of a single reason to use the more common [name]Kathryn[/name] or [name]Caroline[/name] over [name]Adelle[/name], a beautiful more unique name with family connections. I don’t care for the spelling [name]Moriah[/name]. I would go with [name]Mariah[/name] but think [name]Adelle[/name] is much nicer.

I like [name]Adelle[/name] with an M middle name! Maybe [name]Adelle[/name] [name]Marie[/name]? Since you’ve got an M middle name for both of your children, I think it’s best to continue that tradiation! For the boys, I like [name]David[/name] with an M middle name…[name]How[/name] about [name]David[/name] [name]Mark[/name]? I hope I helped, even just a little!
