Hi,
We are expecting our third child (and last!) and are having trouble choosing a name. We have two boys, [name_u]Finley[/name_u] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m]. My husband’s name is [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] ([name_m]Mark[/name_m]) and his surname is Braverman (yes, like the family in Parenthood). My name is [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and all of the children will have my surname, Hardwick, for middle names.
Here is our close family for reference: (in relation to the baby)
Grandparents: [name_m]Robert[/name_m], [name_u]Julie[/name_u], [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]
Aunts: [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Joanna[/name_f]
Uncles: [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_u]Bradley[/name_u]
Cousins: [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m], [name_u]Allison[/name_u] and [name_u]Kelsey[/name_u].
For girls we like [name_u]Scout[/name_u], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and the nickname [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] (either from [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] or [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]) and for boys we like [name_u]Bran[/name_u], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. I don’t think Scout fits with Finley and Simon but my husband really likes it… Also, we don’t love Brandon but aren’t sure if Bran can stand on its own and/or will be too strongly associated with Bran Stark from Game of Thrones. Those six are the front runners however, we are totally open to other suggestions!
Thank you
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f]
[name_f]Danica[/name_f]
[name_f]Annika[/name_f]
[name_f]Annora[/name_f]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_u]Tatum[/name_u]
[name_f]Kaia[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Raquel[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Talia[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] daughter is [name_u]Scout[/name_u]! It is rare to see another [name_u]Scout[/name_u], though our dentist has one too. I also like your [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] choices, though they are very elegant next to [name_u]Finley[/name_u]. [name_m]Peter[/name_m] is probably my favorite for boys. You never hear it, but it is a strong name. Other suggestions would be:
[name_m]Linus[/name_m]
[name_m]Victor[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Lewis[/name_m]
[name_m]Albert[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_m]Willem[/name_m]
I really like [name_u]Bran[/name_u] Hardwick Braverman!! I like the shortness of [name_u]Bran[/name_u] compaired to his middle and last name. Makes it less of a mouthful to say. I personally prefer [name_m]Brann[/name_m] only due to it giving it more of a first name length to it. I think [name_u]Bran[/name_u] sits well on its own like the name [name_m]Bram[/name_m] does.
I honestly did not automatically think Game of Thrones when I read your concern in your other thread. Hopefully no children will know what Game of Thrones is any way, or at least not well enough to associate your sons name with the show. That would be what I’d be concerned about due to school bullies.
To me [name_m]Peter[/name_m] does not fit well with [name_u]Finley[/name_u], and [name_m]Simon[/name_m]. I love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], and how it fits so nicely with his siblings!! But I find that [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] Hardwick Braverman is a bit of a mouthful to say. Granted, he most likely won’t be called by his full name often. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u].
I think you have a winner between [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or [name_u]Bran[/name_u] for if you have a boy.
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a sweet name, and fits well with [name_u]Finley[/name_u] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m]. I like the option of the nn [name_u]Ali[/name_u]/[name_u]Allie[/name_u], but is not necessary becuase [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a stand alone name as well. I pick this over the rest.
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] I like. [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] and Gwedolen are quite long to be paired with the middle and last name combo, at least to me. I like [name_f]Gwenna[/name_f] as an alternative. [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] also fairs well on its own as a first name.
[name_u]Scout[/name_u] is such a fun name however, you are right about it not fitting well with [name_u]Finley[/name_u] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m]. If both of you do not like it I’d consider it as a nn for another name that sounds better with your boys name. possibly starting with ‘S’.
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f]- I met a savannah with the nn [name_u]Scout[/name_u]. Her mom did not want her called Savvy.
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]/[name_f]Sara[/name_f]/Saira
[name_f]Scarlet[/name_f]/[name_f]Scarla[/name_f]
[name_u]Skylar[/name_u]/[name_f]Skyla[/name_f]
[name_f]Scotland[/name_f]
Or any name really. A nn doesn’t have to directly come from a name.
