Hey lovely community,
I’m expecting baby number 2, sibling to Florence Elise, and need your help please!
Boy names are easy for us, will probably be Darcy John, Jude Matthew or William Thomas.
Girl names are significantly trickier! Our surname is pronounced ‘Shot’ with a harsh TT at the end which makes me eliminate beautiful names such as Violette, Juliette, and Harriet.
We won’t be using a name with a ‘Sh’ or ‘S’ prefix as it clashes with our surname, so ones like Celeste and Sophie are out too.
For middle names we use family names, so potentially Willa (in honour of my maiden name), Therese, Frances or Rose.
We like traditional names, not too common or popular, but easily spellable. My husband is a teacher which can make vitos tricky
So far I’m drawn to Emmanuelle, Noelle, Chloe, Adeline, Annie (with a long form please), Viola, and Imogen…
Can Annie be a nn for Adeline?
Thank you

[name_u]Florence[/name_u] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is an absolutely stunning name. I am floored! I love that so much.
From your list, I personally really enjoy [name_u]William[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] as a brother name and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] as a sister!
[name_f]Noelle[/name_f], [name_f]Viola[/name_f], and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] are three more on your list I see as wonderful picks for a sister to [name_u]Florence[/name_u]. They are solid and classic, with the punch and blithe that I think [name_u]Florence[/name_u] masters!
Ideas…
[name_u]Anne[/name_u], [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Diana[/name_f], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], or [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] to get to the nickname [name_f]Annie[/name_f]!
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (My number one baby girl name. [name_u]Florence[/name_u] happens to be my number two. I think these are brilliant for two little girls!)
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] (One of my long-time faves for a sister to [name_u]Florence[/name_u]. Shame that [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] ‘Shot’ won’t be a winner for you, as I think it’s wicked cool!)
[name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_u]Mallory[/name_u]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] (I love these as first name options from your middles list.)
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_u]Hazel[/name_u]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]May[/name_f]
(Also, yes, I think [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Annie[/name_f] works! However, I do find [name_f]Addie[/name_f] more immediately intuitive.)

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]! [name_f]Annie[/name_f] for [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is a bit stretchy, but it can work.
Suggestions:
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] / [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Antonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Arianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Claribel[/name_f]
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Johanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Julianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Leah[/name_f]
[name_f]Liliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariana[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f]
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Annamarie[/name_f] [name_f]Therese[/name_f]
All of them NN [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. I do think [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] works even though it’s less intuitive. I went to school with an [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f] NN [name_f]Annie[/name_f] so that could be an option as well.

I LOVE [name_u]Florence[/name_u] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] with [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m]. If you don’t want to use [name_f]Violette[/name_f] due to the T sound, would you consider [name_f]Violetta[/name_f]?
Here are some suggestions…
[name_f]Annemarie[/name_f]
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruthann[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Violetta[/name_f]
Viola/iola
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] (I don’t think it sound to harsh with Shot)
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Odessa[/name_f]
how about [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]?

I love [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] for a boy!
I also think [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is a beautiful pair for [name_u]Florence[/name_u]. I would say [name_f]Annie[/name_f] could become a nn., but people would be more likely to assume she goes by [name_f]Addie[/name_f] or [name_f]Della[/name_f].

In considering a formal name for our [name_f]Annie[/name_f], our frontrunner was [name_f]Anneline[/name_f]. We pronounced it “ANN-uh-line”. Similar to [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], but the nickname would be more intuitive.
That said, I love your idea of [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] with [name_u]Florence[/name_u]!
Other ideas, based on what you’ve said here:
[name_f]Almeda[/name_f]
[name_f]Ann[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Delila[/name_f]
[name_f]Dora[/name_f]
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f]
[name_f]Gertrude[/name_f]
[name_f]Gilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_u]Jean[/name_u]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f]
[name_f]Libbie[/name_f]
[name_u]Lou[/name_u]
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
Lurania
[name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_u]Maria[/name_u]
[name_u]Marion[/name_u]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]
[name_f]Marlene[/name_f]
[name_u]Mattie[/name_u]
[name_f]Melinda[/name_f]
Modie
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f]
[name_f]Rachael[/name_f]
[name_f]Sallie[/name_f]
[name_f]Susan[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilma[/name_f]
I think the -elle ending is a little tricky to the go into Shot - slightly swallowed? I personally wouldn’t use Emmanuelle or Noelle though I like both. Didn’t suggest Annabel(for Annie) for same reason though it seems to be easier to get to last name than E and N. Annabella could work?
I love Imogen but find it a little abrupt with Shot (that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use it though - it’s a cool name, and Immy is so sweet!). I love Chloe too but again find a bit sudden with Shot.
I would probably go for 3-4 syllable name…
How about, Florence and:
Willamina
Josephine
Genevieve
Emmanuella
Marianne
Annabeth (Annie)
Annabella (Annie, same with next three)
Anastasia
Anoushka
Antonia
Juliana
Leonora
Penelope
Alexandra
Matilda
Clementine
Cordelia
Theodora
Claudia
Helena
Romilly
Delilah
Arabella
Emilia / Amelia
Emily
Fwiw: I would prob opt for William or Darcy for boy - again bc they are slower paced names with Shot. Love all three though!

[name_u]Darcy[/name_u] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] are lovely!!
[name_f]Noelle[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] ‘Annie’, [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_f]Viola[/name_f] are lovely!!
With [name_u]Florence[/name_u], I’ll suggest:
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_u]Cleo[/name_u] [name_f]Therese[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]

[name_u]Zoe[/name_u] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]
Thank you so much! We love her name too
Your suggestions are great, I also love the idea of a solid, punchy and blithe name for girls. That’s what I’m holding out for!
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is a lovely name that gives[name_f]Annie[/name_f] - thank you again

Thank you, these are the considerations I have when picking a name, it’s serious business to get it right!
I love the idea of a longer form name, I want her to feel comfortable doing anything in her life, whether it’s a ‘serious’ or creative profession. [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] with [name_f]Teddy[/name_f] is gorgeous, thank you for your detailed [name_f]Annie[/name_f] suggestions too
Thank you for these suggestions, so many great Victorian names.
I love [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] too, my husband isn’t a fan so it can live in my heart, or maybe snuck in as a middle name!
Thank you, yes I think you can choose your nn!
My name is [name_f]Elise[/name_f] (hence [name_f]Florence’s[/name_f] middle name), and my family all call me [name_f]Louie[/name_f] or [name_f]Lou[/name_f]
Thank you for these and the -a suggestion, Ii think it’s the harsh T anywhere when combined with our surname that puts me off… [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is lovely from this list and can honour a family member too!
Our dog’s name is [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] so we love that already

Thank you, I like these… I’m just not in love. I wonder if the Iso- being associated with COVID is getting to me? I also liked [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] but can’t commit for that reason…
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u] I am so certain about, it will almost certainly be his name if we have a boy. So divine and has Jane Austen vibes. A lovely nod to my maiden name of [name_u]Willoughby[/name_u] as another strong character
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is my favourite today so we’ll see!
Thank you for your list!
I love [name_u]Lou[/name_u] , mostly because it’s my family nn (my name is [name_f]Elise[/name_f]) and our daughter get’s [name_f]Flossie[/name_f] [name_f]Lou[/name_f] .
[name_u]Mattie[/name_u] is sweet too, it happens to be both my husband and brother’s name, [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] . This naming business is tricky!
