Sibling for Helena Iris

Hello all! I’ve been lurking on these boards for months. I [name]Just[/name] found out we’re having #2, and I have no idea about what to name this one. DD is [name]Helena[/name] (He-[name]LEE[/name]-na) [name]Iris[/name], and I want something not too common yet classic to go along with it. [name]Love[/name] these so far:
[name]Sylvia[/name] (nn [name]Sylvie[/name])
[name]Mika[/name] (Mee-ka)
[name]Margot[/name] (possibly nickname for [name]Margaret[/name])
[name]Greta[/name] (same as above)
[name]Jacinda[/name] (this is the ONLY name DH is interested in)

Middle name will probably be [name]Mae[/name] (or some other form of [name]Mary[/name]/[name]Marie[/name]) as it’s family tradition on mom’s side.

Oh, and nieces’ names are [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Madeleine[/name], [name]Georgia[/name], and [name]Tallulah[/name], so those are all out of the question.

I love everyone’s taste in names here. Thanks in advance for you help!

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Helena[/name] [name]Iris[/name]!! Your niece’s names are all lovely, too!

[name]Sylvia[/name] (nn [name]Sylvie[/name]): This is so gorgeous, and absolutely perfect with [name]Helena[/name]!

[name]Susanna/name: I prefer the [name]Susanna[/name] spelling, and once again, it’s wonderful with [name]Helena[/name]. The only problem is the repeating N ending…

[name]Mika[/name]: I don’t think it goes with [name]Helena[/name]… it also seems very insubstantial to me

[name]Tabitha[/name]: I really like [name]Tabitha[/name], too!

[name]Beatrice[/name]: Not my personal favorite, but it’s nice with [name]Helena[/name].

[name]Margot[/name]: I only like it as a nickname for [name]Margaret[/name]-- on its own, it reminds me of maggots (sorry)

[name]Greta[/name]: This is my favorite [name]Margaret[/name] nickname! I think it works as a standalone, too.

[name]Jacinda[/name]: Interesting… not really my style, but I kind of like its background…

My favorite is [name]Sylvia[/name], and [name]Tabitha[/name] and [name]Greta[/name] are great too!

I love the name [name]Helena[/name]! Very pretty. These are my favorites out of the names you are thinking of:

  1. [name]Susanna[/name]
  2. [name]Greta[/name]
  3. [name]Tabitha[/name]

[name]Sylvie[/name], [name]Margot[/name], and [name]Tabitha[/name] are my favorites from your list paired up with [name]Helena[/name].
[name]Susannah[/name] is lovely but has the same ending “na/nah”.

[name]Helena[/name] & [name]Margot[/name] is probably my most favorite…followed closely by [name]Sylvie[/name]…

I love [name]Helena[/name] so much!

[name]Sylvia[/name] (nn [name]Sylvie[/name]): I can see [name]Sylvia[/name] and [name]Helena[/name] as siblings, but I like some of the other names more.

[name]Susanna/name: I love [name]Susannah[/name], but because it has a southern feel to me, I can’t really see it with [name]Helena[/name]. (I can see the [name]Susanna[/name] spelling working, though…) I love the [name]Annie[/name] nickname. (I think a name that doesn’t end in “na” may work better with [name]Helena[/name], though…)

[name]Mika[/name] (Mee-ka): I think it’s a very pretty name, but I like some of the others more…

[name]Tabitha[/name]: I really love [name]Tabitha[/name], and can see it with [name]Helena[/name]…

[name]Beatrice[/name]: I [name]LOVE[/name] this name with [name]Helena[/name]! Two gorgeous Shakespearean names!

[name]Margot[/name] (possibly nickname for [name]Margaret[/name]): Oooh…I love [name]Margot[/name], and thinnk it’s great with [name]Helena[/name]!

[name]Greta[/name] (same as above): I do like [name]Greta[/name], but I can better see [name]Margot[/name] with [name]Helena[/name] for some reason…

[name]Jacinda[/name] (this is the ONLY name DH is interested in): I guess I can see [name]Jacinda[/name] with [name]Helena[/name]…[name]Do[/name] you like [name]Lucinda[/name]?

From your list, I’m voting for [name]Margot[/name], with [name]Beatrice[/name] in a close second and [name]Tabitha[/name] in a close third. I really love your list!

Some more you may like (sorry for repeats):

[name]Annabel[/name] (Then again, lots of N with [name]Helena[/name]…)
[name]Aurelia[/name] (I pronounce it with a [name]Ray[/name] sound…)
[name]Cordelia[/name]/[name]Cora[/name] (I love [name]Cordelia[/name] with [name]Helena[/name]!)
[name]Eliza[/name] (although both start with an [name]El[/name] sound…)
[name]Genevieve[/name] (nn [name]Evie[/name])
[name]Josephine[/name] (oops…both names contain the “een” sound)
[name]Phoebe[/name] (lots of eee with [name]Helena[/name], though)
[name]Rosaline[/name] (I pronounce this with a “line” ending, not a “leen,” although some may pronounce it “leen”…)

Good luck!

If you have ever studied French you will automatically know that the ‘t’ in French is silent.

I get a little het up when I hear people say it reminds them of maggots. I don’t believe it for a second unless they have no idea of the French language.

[name]Margot[/name] as a stand alone name is perfect, it is an elegant, feminine and classy name, much nicer and softer than [name]Margaret[/name].

A combo that I like is [name]Margot[/name] [name]Patricia[/name].

Paticia was once a loved name but hasn’t been used in decades. I think it is time to revive it.

[name]Helena[/name] [name]Iris[/name] and …

[name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Marie[/name] “[name]Cassie[/name]”
[name]Dorothy[/name] [name]May[/name] “[name]Dottie[/name]”
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Mary[/name]
Megara [name]Marie[/name] “[name]Meg[/name]”
[name]Peony[/name] [name]May[/name]
[name]Philippa[/name] [name]Mary[/name] “[name]Pippa[/name]”
[name]Thessaly[/name] [name]May[/name] “[name]Tess[/name]”

Good luck!

Your daughter has a very classy name!

[name]Do[/name] you like [name]Gretchen[/name] nn [name]Greta[/name]?? Maybe it sounds too harsh next to the very feminine [name]Helena[/name]?!

[name]Love[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] and think this compliments [name]Helena[/name] perfectly. On my girl name list is [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]. Not sure if alliteration is your think, but i think this name would go very well with [name]Helena[/name] [name]Iris[/name].

I love that combo! Coincidentally, I minored in French, so I hadn’t really thought that people might pronounce it [name]Mar[/name]-GOT. I just love the simplicity of this name. It makes me think of black peddle pushers and knit sweaters. [name]Don[/name]'t know why. . .

I do study French, and I know that the T is silent. The spelling just reminds me of maggots-- when I first read it in my head, that’s what it sounds like to me. It’s also why I don’t like the name [name]Maddox[/name].
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Patricia[/name] is pretty…

Your daughter’s name is beautiful!

[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name] have the same classic qualities as [name]Helena[/name] and are not overly common.

[name]Margot[/name] has a less traditional and more modern sound. [name]Greta[/name] does too. [name]Helena[/name] has a slightly exotic sound to it (compared to [name]Helen[/name]) which perhaps fits with [name]Margot[/name] or [name]Greta[/name] a bit better than the standard [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Beatrice[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you like the spelling [name]Beatrix[/name] at all?

First of all, I totally dig your daughter’s name!!!
I really like:
My favorite with [name]Helena[/name] is [name]Greta[/name] or [name]Margaret[/name]. [name]Greta[/name] [name]Marie[/name] - I love it!

I have always LOVED the names [name]Susan[/name], [name]Susanna[/name], & [name]Susannah[/name]. I vote for [name]Susanna[/name]!

(BTW, [name]Helena[/name] [name]Iris[/name] is gorgeous!)

I think [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is perfect with [name]Helena[/name]. [name]Lovely[/name] names!

[name]Love[/name] [name]Helena[/name] [name]Iris[/name]!

My faves on your list are
[name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Jacinda[/name] [name]Mae[/name]- different!
[name]Susannah[/name] [name]May[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name] [name]May[/name]

More ideas

[name]Helena[/name] and

[name]Caroline[/name] nn [name]Callie[/name], [name]Cara[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] nn [name]Francie[/name]
[name]Millicent[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] - love, Greek like [name]Helena[/name]
[name]Philippa[/name] nn [name]Pippa[/name]
[name]Theresa[/name] nn [name]Tessa[/name]
[name]Veronica[/name] - one of my very favorites

That was fun because [name]Helena[/name] is so tasteful!

[name]Helena[/name] [name]Iris[/name] is absolutly beautiful and I love it with [name]Greta[/name]. They are both so sophisticated, yet fresh and unused.
