Sibling for Lucía and Sebastián (I've narrowed it down)

We’re TTC #3. Our children are named [name]Luc[/name]ía Noemí and Sebastián [name]Tom[/name]ás, and we have a Spanish last name (but we live in [name]California[/name] so something that works in English and Spanish both is really important to us). Also, as I mentioned in a post a couple weeks ago, we can’t use any first names that have an “r” in it because I can’t quite pronounce those correctly in Spanish. I’m okay with the middle name having an “r”, though.

If #3 is a boy, I’m pretty set on either Félix Agustín or Félix [name]Ulises[/name]. Alternatively, Agustín [name]Ulises[/name] if my husband can’t be persuaded about Félix. (I know he likes Agustín, as it was our #2 boy choice a few years ago.) I am a bit concerned about the spelling of Agustín being different in English and Spanish and would prefer to use it as a middle name so it’s not an issue on a daily basis. Other middle names I’d consider are [name]Mateo[/name], Andrés, [name]Gonzalo[/name], [name]Elias[/name], [name]Felipe[/name], Achiles, [name]Ignacio[/name], and [name]Oscar[/name].

If #3 is a girl, I’m considering: Inés [name]Bel[/name]én, Inés [name]Pilar[/name], [name]Bel[/name]én Eloísa, and [name]Elena[/name] [name]Beatriz[/name] most strongly, but I’m not as in love with these names as I am the boy names above. I’m a bit concerned about Inés - do you think it is a good option in an English speaking country? (Too close to anus? I hate to think it, because I think it’s such a beautiful name, but my sister brought it up so I thought I’d check here. Also, I wonder if it will be too hard for English speakers to prounounce, or would I just give in and call her both [name]Inez[/name] and Inés? (We do that with Sebastián but I like both the English pronunciation and the Spanish pronunciation so it’s fine with me.)) Other girl names I like are [name]Pen[/name]élope, [name]Violeta[/name], [name]Isabel[/name], [name]Noelia[/name], [name]Carmen[/name], [name]Esme[/name], and [name]Elia[/name].

So what would you choose (from these options) for a sibling to [name]Luc[/name]ía Noemí and Sebastián [name]Tom[/name]ás? If you have a really great alternative that I haven’t listed here, though, you could mention that as well, especially for a girl.

Sorry that was so long! Thanks!

I think that [name]Ines[/name] is just fine; your sister’s association didn’t really come to mind for me. [name]Elena[/name] [name]Beatriz[/name] is probably my fave, though; very eclectic, lovely, and multi-cultural. As to your boy’s names, I REALLY like [name]Felix[/name], and it is such a wonderful mix of cultures. I agree, [name]Agustin[/name] is probably better off as a MN due to spelling. But if you and dh agree on that, it is a nice name, too:) (Sorry to have omitted all of the accent marks:)

Your childrens names are beautiful! I’d go for:

[name]Luc[/name]ía Noemí, Sebastián [name]Tom[/name]ás & Félix Agustín (or Félix [name]Elias[/name]). I agree about Agustín being a bit much with the transition between English and Spanish, whereas Félix works wonderfully in both languages.

[name]Luc[/name]ía Noemí, Sebastián [name]Tom[/name]ás & [name]Elena[/name] [name]Beatriz[/name] (or [name]Elena[/name] [name]Pen[/name]élope). I’m so wary of any name that sounds even remotely like something “rude” ha, there’s a girl in my school called [name]Ana[/name]ís and everyone calls her Anus. So I’d be avoiding Inés if I were you. It’s a nice name though.

For a girl, I love [name]Elena[/name] [name]Beatriz[/name] and [name]Esme[/name]. For a boy I love Félix, [name]Elias[/name], and [name]Oscar[/name].

Have you considered [name]Natalia[/name], [name]Camila[/name], [name]Ana[/name], [name]Maya[/name] or [name]Catalina[/name]?

My favourites of your boys names are [name]Mateo[/name] and [name]Felix[/name]. For girls, [name]Isabel[/name] and [name]Esme[/name].

Thanks for your feedback! I think I’m set on Félix Agustín for a boy, and I’m just going to hope DH agrees.
[name]Luc[/name]ía, Sebastián, and Félix. I love it.

dlawsonsmith - I like [name]Camila[/name] quite a lot from that list, but my husband’s name is [name]Camilo[/name], so that won’t work!

Ugh, I think I’m just going to have to keep thinking about girl names. I really like Inés and [name]Bel[/name]én, and [name]Elena[/name] feels a bit boring (though still lovely) in comparison to them to me. I’ll consider [name]Esme[/name] more carefully since a couple of you said you like it.

[name]Luc[/name]ía, Sebastián, and [name]Elena[/name]
[name]Luc[/name]ía, Sebastián, and [name]Bel[/name]én
[name]Luc[/name]ía, Sebastián, and [name]Esme[/name]

I don’t know! I’d love to hear more thoughts about girl names!

I never commented on [name]Bel[/name]én before; it is very lovely, so unusual  However, have you ever heard of the term “bellend”? I don’t know if anyone uses that where you live, but in [name]England[/name] it’s really common and that’s a potential teasing problem.

All of your names are wonderful.

I love [name]Elena[/name] [name]Beatriz[/name] or [name]Esme[/name] [name]Isabel[/name]. I don’t think [name]Elena[/name] is boring at all. In fact I have it on my list, after my mother whose middle name is [name]Elaine[/name]. I think [name]Elena[/name] [name]Esme[/name] is kind of cute, even if it’s alliterative. You really can’t go wrong with any of your options, however. They are all lovely names.

Thanks for your responses. Yikes, I had actually never heard of “bell end” before - thanks for pointing that out. I think [name]Bel[/name]én may be better to reserve for a middle name in that case. I am writing down your additional ideas to think over for a while.

The last few days I’ve been thinking a lot about Eloísa as a first name. The only thing that I don’t really like is that DD’s name ends in “a” and I think I prefer to have the kids’ names all start and end with a different letter. It’s hard to get away from “a” endings in Spanish for girls. But, I like the sound of Eloísa. Is it too similar to [name]Luc[/name]ía?

[name]Luc[/name]ía, Sebastián, and Eloísa

I actually like the flow better if we spelled it [name]Eloise[/name] instead, but I’m not sure if I’m willing to go with the English spelling.

I adore Eloísa! Far more than [name]Eloise[/name], I think it’s absolutely gorgeous  I don’t think it’s too similar, and with Spanish girls names I think a degree of similarity is almost inevitable sometimes. I really like it in the sibset!

Thanks for your feedback. The first names I have narrowed down to are Eloísa, Inés, [name]Elena[/name], or [name]Isabel[/name]. Thoughts? I also liked the suggestion of [name]Isolda[/name]/[name]Isolde[/name] but I don’t think my husband would go for that. I appreciate figuring out so far that I don’t want to give [name]Bel[/name]én as a first name, and that I should consider [name]Elena[/name] and Eloísa more seriously. You guys are helpful!

(I don’t quite get where to post things in this forum - the categories (Sibling names, Boy names, Girl names, [name]Baby[/name] names) are very overlapping. I don’t know if I’d get a better response at this point if I took my questions to the Girl name section or if it’s okay to keep this discussion here…)

Actually, I’ll set up a poll in the Girl Names forum! Thanks again for your input thus far. I really do appreciate it.

I really like [name]Eloisa[/name] and don’t find it too close to [name]Lucia[/name]. I like [name]Elena[/name] a lot too. [name]Ines[/name] is good, I just don’t find it as pretty as [name]Lucia[/name]. Did you see the [name]Woody[/name] [name]Allen[/name] movie that came out last year, [name]Midnight[/name] in [name]Paris[/name]? The main girl is named [name]Inez[/name]. I have heard several ppl say they thought that movie may have put [name]Inez[/name] back into usage in the US. I’m not saying its going to get popular, just maybe more well known.
