Sibling for Mae Elizabeth

We don’t know if we are having a boy or girl as of yet, but we’re looking to expand our girls list a little bit. DD is [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and I’d really like something with a similar feel. To me, [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is vintage, sweet but still spunky and feminine but not frilly. I also like the shortness. Some names that we are currently considering are [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]. My only concern with [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] would be that they have the same meaning as [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. Our boy list currently consists of [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], and [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m]. Any fresh ideas? Sometimes I feel like I’ve read every name and they’re all starting to lose their charm…

[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is gorgeous and sweet! [name_m]How[/name_m] about:

[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Anne[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]

I like the idea of [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Lark[/name_f], if you want to keep the energetic, feminine, slightly vintage vibe. [name_f]Lark[/name_f] is a little hard to pair with a middle name, since that final K is so final sounding…but I think [name_f]Lark[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] could potentially work depending on your last name. Or maybe something like [name_f]Lark[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]?

Other short names that I think would go well with [name_f]Mae[/name_f] are [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], or [name_f]Kate[/name_f].

The same meaning/same root name connection between [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] would bother me too, and there’s also the rhyming factor. Most people would probably never notice it though.

I like [name_f]Mae[/name_f] paired with [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] as a sibset.

I like [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] together. They can be considered to share a meaning if you think of [name_f]Mae[/name_f] as coming from [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], but [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is also historically tied to [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and evokes the thought of the month, so, it’s distinct enough. I share pp’s concerns about [name_f]Daisy[/name_f].

I really like the suggestions of [name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], and [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. You might also like:

[name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lula[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]!

Also PPs’ suggestions of [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Opal[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Lark[/name_f].

If you’d consider a longer name:
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aster[/name_f]
[name_f]Bryony[/name_f]/[name_f]Briony[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Junia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lacey[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]

Hmm…
I’m concerned by your concern of all three names sharing the same meaning. According to nameberry, [name_f]Mae[/name_f] means ‘bitter’, [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] means ‘pearl’, and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] means ‘[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]’ so [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] share the same meaning with each other but they don’t have the same meaning as [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. Yes [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is a diminutive of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] which means ‘pearl’ but [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (according to nameberry) as her own stand-alone meaning which is ‘bitter’ so don’t worry about that!! I dislike [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] but [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] are stunning, work so nicely with [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I also love the boy names [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_m]Ezra[/name_m].

Suggestions:
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Elena[/name_f] & [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]’
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]’
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] '[name_f]Anna[/name_f] & [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] ‘[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] & [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]’
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Laura[/name_f] & [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]’
[name_f]Beth[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Beth[/name_f] & [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]’
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] ‘[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] & [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]’
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Elise[/name_f] & [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]’
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] & [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]’
[name_f]Kate[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Kate[/name_f] & [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]’

I think [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], and [name_f]Etta[/name_f] are a great fit with [name_f]Mae[/name_f].

[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
Sylvie

Thanks for all of the great suggestions!

I love the idea of [name_f]Lark[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], but DH isn’t on board. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] was actually our number two choice for [name_f]Mae[/name_f].

Some others I will be adding to the list are:
[name_f]Etta[/name_f] (although it’s pretty heavy on the T sound with our last name)
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
