Looking for some fresh perspective on a sister name for our daughter, [name_f]Maia[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u].
We love [name_f]Maia[/name_f] because it’s short, pronounced the same in [name_f]English[/name_f] and Spanish, and easily recognized but not overly popular (at least in our area!).
[name_u]Louise[/name_u] is to honor my Mom. We will be using [name_u]Maria[/name_u] this time.
I like [name_f]Lena[/name_f] or [name_f]Leni[/name_f] [name_u]Maria[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband does not. He likes [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_u]Maria[/name_u]. I don’t mind [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] per se but it just doesn’t “speak to me” like [name_f]Maia[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_u]Maria[/name_u], and love how she and [name_f]Maia[/name_f] would have the same initials in reverse! However, if your husband doesn’t like it, I think that is a deal breaker unfortunately. I also worry it might get pronounced as both “lee-na” and “leh-na” if that bothers you.
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is very pretty and pairs well with [name_f]Maia[/name_f]. If it doesn’t speak to you, maybe a great nickname will convince you? [name_f]Emi[/name_f] or [name_f]Lia[/name_f] come to mind. Otherwise, I might look at some more options.
Maybe you would like…
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] (seems like a nice compromise between [name_f]Lena[/name_f] and Emilia)
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_u]Alma[/name_u]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Lara[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Selena[/name_f] / [name_f]Selina[/name_f]
[name_f]Lani[/name_f]
[name_f]Emiliana[/name_f] (I think you might be able to get away with [name_f]Lina[/name_f] as a nickname here, which could be a potential compromise!)
Emilina or [name_f]Emelina[/name_f] (you could definitely use [name_f]Lina[/name_f] here as a nickname!)
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]
How about [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], or just [name_f]Liana[/name_f]? Feels like a nice halfway between your picks and your husband’s. [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is also a great idea
I like Lena and Leni with your daughter’s name, but if you need a fresh list to look over with your husband, here are some others that are short and work in both languages.
