Hello! I am expecting a little bundle of joy in [name]March[/name], and haven’t found out the gender yet. I have a son, [name]Finley[/name] [name]Ransom[/name], whom I named [name]Finley[/name] before I knew that a) it was going to be so popular and b) it was going to be more popular as a girl’s name than a boy’s. [name]Ransom[/name] is after his great-grandfather.
I am having a rough time trying to find the right naming style for his new sibling. [name]Do[/name] I go with another Celtic name? A classic name? A trendy name, just because [name]Finley[/name] has become popular?
I love [name]Finley[/name] on boys, and for what it’s worth, I do think of it as a boys’ name.
I can picture the following names with [name]Finley[/name]:
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Bennett[/name]
[name]Beckett[/name]
[name]Callum[/name]
[name]Cormac[/name]
[name]Donovan[/name]
[name]Declan[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] (I can see [name]Finley[/name] and [name]Teddy[/name] as brothers)
[name]Harrison[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]Kellan[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Quinlan[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name] (used on girls, too, though)
[name]Reed[/name]/[name]Reid[/name]
[name]Rafferty[/name] (nn [name]Rafe[/name])
[name]Sullivan[/name]
[name]Truman[/name]
[name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Wilson[/name]
With [name]Finley[/name], I’d personally go with a Celtic name or a surname, although I can see some classic names, like [name]Edward[/name], [name]James[/name], and [name]Thomas[/name] working, too. While surnames are listed above, I don’t personally find any of them trendy, and I don’t think of [name]Finley[/name] on a boy as being trendy, either.
I really like [name]Jill[/name]'s suggestions of:
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Bennett[/name] (nn might be [name]Fin[/name] and [name]Ben[/name] which might be a little too matchy for you)
[name]Cormac[/name] (I can see them being called [name]Fin[/name] and [name]Mac[/name])
[name]Donovan[/name]
[name]Declan[/name] - I have always loved this Irish name
[name]Everett[/name] - love
[name]Harrison[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Reed[/name]/[name]Reid[/name]
[name]Sullivan[/name] - [name]Fin[/name] and [name]Sully[/name], Finny and [name]Sully[/name]… Very cute together.
[name]Truman[/name] - Very cute with [name]Finley[/name]. [name]Love[/name] the name [name]Truman[/name]
I love some of [name]Jill[/name]'s suggestions! They go so well with [name]Finley[/name] (I love your son’s name, by the way! Great combo.)
I think you said you needed suggestions for girl’s names as well. If so, I think you need to stay well away from unisex names to emphasise that [name]Finley[/name] is a boy. Some names I think work:
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] (love this with [name]Finley[/name]!)
[name]Georgina[/name]
[name]Ava[/name]
[name]Delilah[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Lilah[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Bella[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Gemma[/name]
[name]Grace[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Louisa[/name]
Otherwise, I think Irish names work well:
[name]Aislinn[/name]
[name]Ciara[/name] (love!)
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Orla[/name]
[name]Roisin[/name]
I really like so many of the names that you suggested! Thank you so much for taking the time to help me! I will need to go through these with my hubby, but I think there may be some great ideas here!
What do you think about the name [name]Marcella[/name] for a girl? I’m not sure it fits with [name]Finley[/name], but I have been liking it more and more lately.
I’m so happy you may have found some names to work with [name]Finley[/name].
I think [name]Marcella[/name] is pretty, but I’m wondering if she may run into pronunciation issues ([name]Mar[/name]-cella/[name]Mar[/name]-chella). Hmmm… Like you mentioned, I don’t think it’s the best fit with [name]Finley[/name], but I do like it!
[name]Love[/name] the name [name]Finley[/name] [name]Ransom[/name]!
[name]Jill[/name]'s idea of [name]Edward[/name] nn [name]Teddy[/name] is adorable with [name]Finley[/name].
Sorry for the repeats.
