We are due with #2 in [name_f]September[/name_f] and are having trouble finding a sibling for [name_m]Whitman[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] ([name_u]Whit[/name_u]). We have some girls names that we’ve considered but don’t 100% agree on Talulah, [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], and [name_u]Eliot[/name_u]. We are no where with boy names.
We prefer something less common and bonus points if there is a literary connection.
I like pp’s suggestions of [name_m]Quaide[/name_m]/[name_m]Quade[/name_m], [name_m]Gable[/name_m], [name_m]Hayes[/name_m], [name_m]Davis[/name_m] and [name_m]Tennyson[/name_m] although there were so many good ideas in there! For a sister I really like [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Carys[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].
I love [name_m]Whitman[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], so handsome!
I like Talulah of your options so far. I feel [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is too common to be sister to [name_m]Whitman[/name_m], and whilst I don’t mind [name_u]Eliot[/name_u] on a girl I think [name_m]Whitman[/name_m]'s sister should have a more feminine name. I actually think Talulah [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is a lovely combo
To me [name_m]Whitman[/name_m] is very [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f] patrician in feel, so my inclination would be for a name in the same vein (if I know of a literary source I added it):
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_f]Constance[/name_f] (one of [name_f]Sue[/name_f] [name_m]Barton[/name_m]'s best friends in the vintage YA series)
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] ([name_m]Holden[/name_m] Caulfield’s sister)
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] ([name_m]Woolf[/name_m])
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] ([name_m]King[/name_m], Suzuma)
[name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] (of Sunnybrook Farm)
[name_f]Theodosia[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] (from Portrait of a Lady, IIRC)
For a boy:
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] (Caulfield)
[name_m]Thoreau[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Thor[/name_m]?)
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u] ([name_m]Ralph[/name_m] [name_m]Waldo[/name_m])
[name_u]Alcott[/name_u] ([name_m]Bronson[/name_m])
[name_m]Brooks[/name_m] ([name_f]Geraldine[/name_f], [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_u]Terry[/name_u])
[name_m]Adams[/name_m] (I think both Presidents [name_m]Adams[/name_m] also wrote)
[name_m]Lowell[/name_m] ([name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Russell[/name_m], [name_m]Robert[/name_m], [name_f]Amy[/name_f])
Thank you so much for all the great suggestions! I really like [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], and [name_m]Davis[/name_m] for a boy, which is where we are really struggling to agree.
I think we’ve pretty much settled that a girl with be Talulah or [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_f]Elise[/name_f], but who knows, we threw out all our names last time and [name_m]Whitman[/name_m] was nameless for 2 days!
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Silas[/name_m], nn [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] for a boy. (refer to the American writer [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]).
[name_m]Emmerson[/name_m] [name_f]Bronte[/name_f], nn [name_f]Emmi[/name_f] for a girl.
