I’d love help coming up with a final name to complete the sibset:
Milena (Lena) and Nikolai (Niko)
Currently, the top contender for a girl name is Rozalia (Roza/Rozi) which is a family name. I am open to girl name suggestions but am absolutely stuck on boy names. My husband always pushes for Alexander and it just doesn’t feel right to me. I suggested Alexei as I compromise, so far to no avail.
We would prefer names with Slavic origins. But we live in the southern US so need a name that will be easy enough to pronounce. I like short sweet nicknames.
I’m from the southern US and live in a Slavic speaking country (my husband’s home country), so we’re also a bilingual family, and we have a [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m]!
We just had our second son and called him [name_m]Aleksander[/name_m] (though still struggling with a nickname or whether to call him by his second name, [name_u]Blaise[/name_u], so I really understand your feeling on Alexander).
We also like and considered:
[name_u]Kristian[/name_u] - pronounced in 3 syllables here (Kit)
Augustine/Augustyn
[name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] (Benji)
[name_m]Alois[/name_m] (Louie)
[name_m]Johannes[/name_m] (Jonas or [name_u]Joss[/name_u] - we changed the J sound from [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] to Jonas/Joss)
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Anatoly[/name_m]
Konstantine
Vaclav (Vasik, pronounced Vah-sheek)
[name_m]Isaak[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_u]Basil[/name_u]
[name_m]Lukyan[/name_m]
For girls, we liked names that we’re less Slavic, but we both have [name_m]German[/name_m] heritage, so that came through:
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f] (for St. [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] of [name_u]Bohemia[/name_u], and I like [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] better than Agniezka)
[name_u]Hazel[/name_u]
[name_f]Nela[/name_f] / [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (Sophie)
[name_f]Annemarie[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelheid[/name_f]
[name_f]Hilda[/name_f] / [name_f]Hildie[/name_f] (my guilty pleasure, probably as a nickname for Adelheid)
Leiselotte
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (Katka or Kit)
Hmm. [name_m]Xavi[/name_m] would probably be the most obvious nickname for [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]. Maybe [name_u]Rex[/name_u] or Vix if you’re feeling daring? I do love [name_u]Rex[/name_u]. That could be fun.
That’s crazy! [name_f]My[/name_f] brother and I are named [name_f]Melina[/name_f] and [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], He goes by [name_u]Nick[/name_u] and I was always called [name_f]Lina[/name_f] or leeney-bug lol.
For [name_m]Aleksander[/name_m], we’ve thought of:
[name_u]Alek[/name_u] (my older daughters’ favorite)
[name_u]Sandy[/name_u] (my favorite)
[name_m]Aleksey[/name_m] (my husband’s favorite… even though it is technically its own name and not an [name_m]Aleksander[/name_m] nickname, but it still can work!)
[name_u]Alex[/name_u] (the default, of course, but not my favorite)
[name_f]Ally[/name_f]
[name_u]Sasha[/name_u]
Ander(s)
[name_u]Andy[/name_u]
Leks(y)
Sander/Xander
Deks/Dex
If I could pull it off, I also think Anny/Ani on a boy is too cute…
Since his second name is [name_u]Blaise[/name_u], someone suggested Albie/Alby, which is honestly really growing on me . We’d also considered [name_m]Abe[/name_m] or [name_m]Abel[/name_m].
So you could also play with [name_m]Aleksander[/name_m] + a middle name and come up with a nickname that way as well!
