We have an 2 year old named [name_u]Noah[/name_u]. We felt in love with the name Faris. We are not sure or these 2 names sounding good together, because we love the name so much. So I’m really wondering about somebody’s else’s opinion about these names for 2 brothers.
[name_u]Noah[/name_u] is much trendier but I dont see a problem
[name_m]Ferris[/name_m] and [name_u]Noah[/name_u] both have an old man feel to them so I see them fitting we’ll together in a sibset
Better spell Faris differently, it looks like Farts.
But I like the sound of it, and I like it spelled [name_m]Ferris[/name_m] or [name_m]Farris[/name_m]. I think it goes well with [name_u]Noah[/name_u]. Like a pp said, they are both old man kinds of names… well, there’s always [name_m]Ferris[/name_m] [name_m]Bueller[/name_m] which gives it a little more 80s style spunk.
I think [name_m]Ferris[/name_m] or Faris is a tough name. [name_m]Ferris[/name_m] wheels, [name_m]Ferris[/name_m] [name_m]Bueller[/name_m], and the Arabic name ‘faris’ is actually pronounced fah-riss. Faris has a great meaning but it seems really discordant with the name [name_u]Noah[/name_u] (unless your family is Arab?)
Can you think hard about what you like about Faris? Is it the meaning, the F-start, the general sound? [name_u]Noah[/name_u] can swing in a bunch of different direction-- biblical, Jewish, trendy, vintage-- so a wide variety of names can sound good with it, but Faris just seems pretty out there.
I actually teach a little Pakistani boy named Faris and he’s an absolute star! However, I really couldn’t imagine siblings named [name_u]Noah[/name_u] & Faris, they just don’t go well at all. They don’t look bad together, they just seem world’s apart…
I don’t like Faris with the classic [name_u]Noah[/name_u] at all. It sounds kind of lightweight next to your son’s name. I just find them extremely different in style (like they were named by two sets of parents). You could always use it as a middle name. Here are some suggestions.
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_m]Luther[/name_m]
[name_m]Farley[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m]
[name_m]Quentin[/name_m]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Eli[/name_m]
[name_m]Angus[/name_m]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]
[name_m]Asher[/name_m]
[name_m]Grant[/name_m]
[name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_m]Luke[/name_m]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Phineas[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_m]Fergus[/name_m]
Our Family is Muslim, we translated [name_u]Noah[/name_u]'s name to English. By the Quran is [name_u]Noah[/name_u] called [name_m]Nuh[/name_m]. But the sound of [name_u]Noah[/name_u] we liked better. We love the name Faris because of the sound and meaning. We want to have a Muslim name but sounding English as well. We are thinking of [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], I like the name. But not as much as [name_m]Farris[/name_m]/Faris or [name_m]Ferris[/name_m]. But the name [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] sounds better with [name_u]Noah[/name_u]
Wonderful, then Faris is a great fit. I agree, [name_m]Nuh[/name_m] is hard for most Americans to say (especially with the voiced H). Faris is a nice secular Arabic name, not tied to Islam or Christianity.
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] doesn’t sound Muslim at all to American ears.
What about [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] Faris as an option?
Yes we are thinking about [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] Faris too.
I married into an Arab family so have spent some time thinking about names which translate over well. If you want suggestions in addition to Faris:
[name_u]Ali[/name_u] (if you’re [name_u]Shia[/name_u])
[name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_m]Amir[/name_m]
[name_m]Basil[/name_m] (prn ba-[name_m]SEEL[/name_m], looks like English name [name_m]Basil[/name_m])
[name_m]David[/name_m] / [name_m]Daoud[/name_m]
[name_m]Aaron[/name_m] / [name_m]Haroun[/name_m]
[name_m]Ibrahim[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] / [name_m]Jibril[/name_m]
[name_m]Karim[/name_m]
[name_u]Sami[/name_u] (supreme, sublime in Arabic-- looks like English name [name_u]Sammy[/name_u])
[name_u]Taj[/name_u]
[name_m]Omar[/name_m]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m] / Yaqub
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] / [name_m]Yousef[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m] / [name_m]Yunus[/name_m]
[name_m]John[/name_m] / [name_m]Yahya[/name_m] [Muslim] or Yuhanna [ [name_m]Christian[/name_m]]
[name_u]Zaki[/name_u] (‘intelligent,’ looks like English name [name_m]Zach[/name_m], [name_m]Zachary[/name_m])
[name_m]Will[/name_m] he have his dad’s name as his middle?
No he wont have his dad’s name in his middle. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband doesn’t like to give his name to one of his children. We are thinking of:
- [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Farris[/name_m]
- [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
- danyal/[name_m]Daniel[/name_m].
- [name_m]Farris[/name_m]
I love the name Garbiel as well, but my husband doesn’t like it as much.
