DH & I have a 3 1/2 year old son named Torben [name]William[/name] and just found out we’re expecting our second baby in [name]December[/name]. We chose Torben because my family has a long history of Torvalds and Thorvalds, but we wanted something that could be shortened easily. We sort of expected everyone to call our son [name]Ben[/name], but so far no one has. It’s nice that he has the option later if he wants something more mainstream.
Anyway, baby number 2 is more challenging. We really had to search hard to find a boy’s name we liked, so what if this little bean is a boy too? My husband & I really like [name]Wyatt[/name], but I’m concerned that it doesn’t go with Torben. S names are out because our last name starts with an S and the middle name will be [name]Kevin[/name] after my father. Any suggestions?
Here are our tentative choices
boy: [name]Wyatt[/name] [name]Kevin[/name]
girl: Delcy [name]JoAnne[/name] (middle name is for my mother)
We’re not at all settled on either gender and I’d love to hear people responses and suggestions.
Thanks,
[name]Kelly[/name] (1 of 5 Kellys in my 3rd grade class)
Torben is very cool! A great inventive way to incorporate the tradition of Thorvold/Torvalds in your family!
I think that [name]Wyatt[/name] sounds fine with Torben, although it does seem a little lackluster and commonplace in comparison.
Here are some other ideas.
Names that make me think of Torben:
[name]Axel[/name]
Zarek
[name]Brogan[/name]
[name]Brigham[/name]
[name]Bastian[/name]
[name]Brennan[/name]
[name]Tarquin[/name]
[name]Zane[/name]
[name]Cavan[/name]
[name]Carden[/name]
[name]Quentin[/name]
[name]Brock[/name]
[name]Brett[/name]
Names that make me think of [name]Wyatt[/name]:
[name]Weston[/name]
[name]Wylie[/name]
[name]Wynn[/name]
Winden
[name]Waylon[/name]
[name]Landon[/name]
Good luck!
P.S. Delcy is very pretty! And goes very well with Torben. Where did it come from? I also really like [name]Dulcie[/name].
I think Torben and [name]Wyatt[/name] go great together! The nn’s [name]Tor[/name] and Wy sound so cute as brothers!
With Torben, i can also see :
[name]Xander[/name]/[name]Zander[/name]
[name]Ace[/name]
[name]Jett[/name]
[name]Hendrix[/name] - I think this works really well actually because you got Torben from a very classic (I guess you would call [name]Thorvald[/name] that) name, and [name]Hendrix[/name] seems to come from [name]Henry[/name] to me (another classic)…but it has that funky feeling!
[name]Lennox[/name]
[name]Tennyson[/name]
As for girls, for some reason Delcy doesn’t flow amazingly on the tongue…almost acts as a tongue twister for me for some reason. If you like Delcy though, you might like the names [name]Darcy[/name], [name]Darby[/name], [name]Delancey[/name], [name]Quincy[/name], [name]Delainey[/name], [name]Delilah[/name], [name]Dahlia[/name], [name]Della[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name]/[name]Kelcie[/name]. With Torben, by favorite would be [name]Darcy[/name] or [name]Delainey[/name]!
[name]Wyatt[/name] is a great name, and I think it goes just fine with Torben,
I can’t get behind Delcy, though - it sounds very flimsy and I think a girl with that name might have a hard time being taken seriously. Have you considered [name]Johanna[/name] as a first name to honor your Mom? It’s a lot more mainstream than Torben, but I think they work together.
Torben is such a nice name. [name]Wyatt[/name] goes okay with Torben, but I agree with a previous poster in that it seems a little too common place. Delcy is cute, something I’ve never heard. I think she will fit right in with all of the Ellies and such.
Boys names that compliment Torben:
[name]Henrik[/name]- Has the option to one day be [name]Henry[/name]
[name]Leon[/name]- Has the option of [name]Leo[/name]
[name]Jonas[/name]
[name]Finlay[/name]- “[name]Finn[/name]”
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Andreas[/name]
[name]Anton[/name]
[name]August[/name]- option for [name]Gus[/name]
[name]Caspar[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Elias[/name]- “[name]Eli[/name]”
[name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Mattias[/name]- option of [name]Matt[/name]
[name]Maximilian[/name]- option of [name]Max[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Otto[/name]
[name]Matteo[/name]
[name]Dominic[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Do[/name] you like any of those? Am I on the right track?
Thanks for all the feedback! You all are on the right track, because a half dozen of the suggested names are within our family already ([name]Quinten[/name], [name]Brennan[/name], [name]Landon[/name], [name]Johanna[/name]…)! I’m glad to hear that you don’t think [name]Wyatt[/name] is completely out of left field, but I also liked some of your suggestions.
[name]Jonas[/name] - what about [name]Johann[/name]?
[name]Finlay[/name]
[name]Everett[/name] - I like the way this flows with [name]Kevin[/name]
[name]Tennyson[/name] - any nickname suggestions?
[name]Henrik[/name]
[name]Lennox[/name]
[name]Hendrix[/name], [name]Jett[/name] and [name]Xander[/name] are a little too rock & roll for my tastes
Thanks for the feedback on Delcy too, interesting to hear some people think it’s a little “flimsy”. I wouldn’t want my daughter’s name to make her sound silly. My husband actually came up with Delcy by combing letters from both of our first names: [name]Kelly[/name] & [name]Chad[/name]. I still like it, but you’ve given me some food for thought.
And no, you aren’t the first person to use the name Delcy. Most made-up names turn out to be real. From searching, it appears to be both a last and first name, and fairly often shows up with Spanish names. The first result I get is its slang meanings, which are undesirable, but I don’t know if they’re at all widespread.
[name]Wyatt[/name] is ok but not nearly as cool as Torben. I do like [name]Jonas[/name] and [name]Tennyson[/name] nn ten. [name]JOhann[/name] looks a little fem to me. Sorry i dont like your girls choice.
