Here are our top name choices at the moment for Baby #3 (it’s a boy!) but I’m still open to suggestions and opinions!

Lucas / Lucius / Luca,
Caspian
Rowan
Atticus
Felix / Phoenix
Victor
Atlas

With our first two children, we have Ariana “Ari” and Magnus “Max”. I love that they can go by a longer, more formal name and a cute nickname. I was hoping to find something with similar options for the third child, but Lucas “Luke” is a little too popular for my taste so the search continues.

Here are some first and middle name pairings that I like:

Oh my gosh what beautiful names ! I have some different loves for different reasons . [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite combination you have is [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Aurelius[/name_m] . I feel that it mixes the feel of [name_f]Arianna[/name_f] , [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and also love that it shares the letter A so all the siblings have that tie

However I like [name_m]Lucius[/name_m] ([name_m]Luc[/name_m]) And [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] ([name_m]Cas[/name_m]/ Caz / [name_m]Cap[/name_m]/Ian ) as first names with [name_u]Ari[/name_u] and [name_u]Max[/name_u]

Yeah, so part of the hesitation with our current names list was the lack of nickname opportunities!

I also thought of working it backwards and picking a nickname that I like and then finding a name that matched but those are [name_m]Luke[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_m]Ken[/name_m], etc. So far I haven’t found any names that we both likes to get those nicknames. He said [name_m]Lucius[/name_m], [name_m]Leonard[/name_m], [name_m]Finnick[/name_m] were his favorite versions, by the way.

I’m glad to see some love for [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Aurelius[/name_m] and [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] (middle names are tricky for this name). [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] was the name we brainstormed last week as an alternative to [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]! Then I started to think about it and two of my nephews already have short R names and I’m hesitant about that, but it’s not a dealbreaker yet. Thanks for your feedback :smiley:

Ariana and [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] and great. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourites alongside them are [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], especially [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] together!

Magnus is my husband’s favorite name. Fun to see actually used in real life!

Anyway, here are my thoughts for #3:

Lucas / [name_m]Lucius[/name_m] / [name_u]Luca[/name_u]-I feel like [name_m]Lucius[/name_m] fits really well w/Ariana & [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]. And I love [name_m]Luc[/name_m] spelled this way as a nn. I don’t think that [name_m]Luke[/name_m]/Luc is that popular. Probably about as much as [name_u]Max[/name_u] at most. [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] is pretty popular though, & not nearly as interesting as [name_m]Lucius[/name_m] in my opinion. I actually love [name_u]Luca[/name_u] the most, but it’s so short on its own that it seems weird to use a nn.

Caspian-Ooh, I love this w/your crew (another one of my husband’s favorites, actually.) It’s so handsome & strong but a little bit mystical. Simple & known enough but not at all popular. And it kind of has that bold romantic vibe that I get from [name_f]Ariana[/name_f] & [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]. Plus, the nns [name_m]Cas[/name_m] & Caspi are easy & adorable. [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is perfect.

Rowan-I really like it, & I think that you can do the nn [name_u]Win[/name_u] here. This name falls under that category of rugged outdoorsy boys that have a gentle soul. I really like [name_m]Aurelius[/name_m] in general. Maybe just not w/Rowan for some reason. They give me different vibes.

Atticus-I like it. It’s smart & vintage & a little quirky. I’m wondering if it’s a little bit close to [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] because they both have the nn of [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. You could also do the nn [name_m]Ace[/name_m]? [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] is handsome.

Felix / [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]-These are both a bit nick-name-less, but [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] is so cool. I don’t like [name_m]Felix[/name_m] as much. It just sounds a little weak or something. [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] is maybe too much as a fn. Maybe I’m just not brave enough.

Victor-It’s an interesting one that you don’t see a lot. I’m not sure that I love the sound of it personally, but it’s not an awful name.

Atlas-I really like the one. You could also do the nn [name_m]Ace[/name_m] here. [name_f]Atty[/name_f] is kind of cute too, but maybe too close to [name_u]Ari[/name_u]. [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] is like a fresher version of [name_m]Atticus[/name_m].

The obvious nn for [name_m]Victor[/name_m] is [name_u]Vic[/name_u]!
I know both an adult and a child (3rd grade) named [name_m]Victor[/name_m]. Such a “winning” name.

Thanks for your comments! I do like the idea of either [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] or [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] getting the nickname “[name_m]Ace[/name_m]”. The main reason I like a nickname is to be able to use it in public places or with strangers. I usually introduce my son as “[name_u]Max[/name_u]” which gives some privacy and flexibility. For example, if we’re talking to a 90 year old woman, I don’t want to blow their mind with a unique name and lead to misunderstandings. So I give bonus points to a name that has a “normal” nickname like “[name_m]Luke[/name_m]”, “[name_m]Leo[/name_m]” or “[name_m]Ian[/name_m]”. At home, we call our kids a variety of things and family nicknames are impossible to predict.

It sounds like you like most of the name choices, which makes my decision even harder. I really want to narrow it down to a top 3 and then wait until we meet the baby to decide for sure. So many fun options!

Yes, I saw [name_m]Felix[/name_m] on a previous post about sibling names for [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]. I thought it was really cute and similar vibe in the modern naming world, although they aren’t really connected. I also love the name’s meaning: “happy or blessed”. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband says it’s just “ok” and prefers [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], which is a little too complex and difficult to spell in my opinion, although it’s very cool.

Kent is actually one of my favorite names. I also like [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] nn [name_m]Link[/name_m]. Lots of good ideas here, thanks!

Okay, top three!

Keep:

Caspian-Probably too much for a 90 year old, but fairly easy for most people. Very obvious & sweet nick-name options. Fairly unique & goes perfectly w/Ariana & [name_m]Magnus[/name_m].

Atlas-The only con here is that it starts w/an ‘A’ like [name_f]Ariana[/name_f]. But I don’t think that it’s a huge deal. It’s av very cool smart & cheeky sounding name. A well known enough word that it’s not complicated, but isn’t too terribly popular for a name. And the nn [name_m]Ace[/name_m] is nice. And three letters!

Lucius-I think that this goes really well w/your crew. It’s also very unique, but [name_m]Luc[/name_m] is really easy & well known & a very handsome nick-name.

Don’t keep:

Lucas-[name_m]Way[/name_m] way over done.

Luca-I love it, but it’s getting popular. And I feel like [name_u]Luca[/name_u] nn [name_m]Luc[/name_m] seems unnecessary? I think that’s what I mean.

Atticus-A little bit trendy & maybe kind of close to [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]. Plus, [name_f]Atty[/name_f] sounds like the very popular girl name, [name_f]Addie[/name_f].

Felix-Fine, but fairly nick-name-less.

Phoenix-Also doesn’t really have any nick-names, & maybe just a little bit too out there. I like it as a mn.

Victor-Nothing wrong w/it, it just doesn’t sparkle for me. And [name_u]Vic[/name_u] just sounds a little mobster guy to me.

@MichelleM I agree with your top 3. I have to keep [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] because it’s my husband’s favorite name on the list so far. But the lack of nicknames is really lowering the appeal for me. [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] and [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] share a lot of qualities, so I will keep them together. I’ve decided that I would use “[name_m]Ian[/name_m]” for “[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]”, “[name_m]Luc[/name_m]” for “[name_m]Lucius[/name_m]” and “[name_m]Ace[/name_m]” for [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] or [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]. Finally, I can’t forget about [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] :slight_smile: I need to think of some middle names for that choice because it’s such a nice name.

@ethelmary I do like [name_m]Lucian[/name_m]! I think it has a lot of good things, and for some reason my husband prefers [name_m]Lucius[/name_m]. I think I will keep pushing for [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] because it looks and sounds much cleaner to me.
