Sibling Names

Thanks for your opinions Berries!

My first thought was, “Wow! Those are some big families!” With all of those kids, maybe they really did run out of ideas by the time numbers 5 or 6 came along!
I tend to agree with your comments on the sibsets listed above. And, I do think about sibsets when mulling over names. However, I also think that while they’ll (obviously) be siblings for their whole lives, it is only the first decade or 2 where they’ll all be together and introduced together.
Also, for those in the family and those that know the family, the names would sound natural together. My sister has a name that was probably not in the top 500 names (and possibly not even in the top 1000) and my name was #9 but, to me, of course they sound like they belong together and are sisters!

Speaking as a [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Louise[/name] with a brother named [name]James[/name] [name]Donovan[/name] and a sister named [name]Krystofer[/name] “Krysti” [name]Alicia[/name] and a half-brother [name]Draven[/name] [name]Scott[/name], my sister is kinda left out a bit and my mom had everything to do with my half-brothers name. But it’s all we’ve ever known, so it’s not too weird to us.

If it’s not overly obvious (unlike the examples you provided, which are very obvious), I don’t have a problem with it.

Your sister is named [name]Krystofer[/name]? Yikes.

For girls, I hate seeing this: [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Viviana[/name], [name]Alexandria[/name], and…[name]Jane[/name].

Are we sure the last names on the list are the new arrivals? Sounds more like a half sibling issue on some of them (Poor [name]Mackenzie[/name]!), or that the first son was a junior, but maybe I’m just being hopeful. When I see these I often wonder if the odd one out ([name]Andrew[/name] [name]Timothy[/name], anyone?) was named for someone who passed away near their time of birth. I’ll say it seem odd that this many families had babies close together and decided to break their naming patterns at once. Something in church’s water?!

Kid don’t need to be feel left out or less loved. [name]Even[/name] if they do, they will outgrow that. That feeling is childish.

Maybe they stop the theme, because they… don’t have idea what name to choose? [name]Feel[/name] they theme is mistake to begin with? [name]One[/name] partner wanted the theme, other one didn’t say anything because some reason and now they rebel against the theme?

I hate that too. It makes absolutely no sense.

I don’t go to the church, but I do know the families that I listed. None are half or step siblings, nor are any juniors. Not all of the announcements were new. The ones I listed range from new to two months old. The church is huge, so, while this list makes it look like many changed their naming patterns, this isn’t even a fraction of the birth announcements they had on the board. I also just listed the ones that stood out to me. Most of the announcements were only for their first or second child, and the names didn’t stand out.

I have issues with themes, mostly because at some point (child 6 -19) themes can become restrictive. Not that I expect most families to be as large as the Duggar’s family but, you know at some point you just run out of great J names. The same thing goes for really any theme.

There are some themes that allow for a lot of flexibility. Like “our theme is anything nature related” so siblings [name]Wolfgang[/name], [name]Lillian[/name], and [name]Heathcliff[/name] are very loosely connected. But in general I feel similarity in length, popularity and language are a good guideline (unless you make it a theme for every name to be so incredibly different from all others that, that then becomes a theme - seem like a headache though.)

.:Jaw drop:. So many babies! I wouldn’t want to be the nursery coordinator for that place

Yep. She was the first and mom wanted a boy. When she found out it was a girl she said “[name]Krystofer[/name] still works!”. There’s a reason she goes by Krysti!!!
