We’re currently expecting our first boy and my husband and I have vastly differing tastes in names. Our first girl is called [name_f]Isla[/name_f], and so far, top of our shortlist is [name_u]Milo[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] only hesitation is the similar ‘IL’ sounds in both their names and how even now when I’m saying them aloud, I trip over it (Mila, [name_f]Ilo[/name_f] etc!). Any parents with similar sounding sibling names that regretted it?
Other contenders are [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_u]Remi[/name_u]. [name_u]Happy[/name_u] to hear other suggestions though!
I love [name_f]Isla[/name_f] & [name_u]Milo[/name_u], I guess they are similar with that repeating sound when said together but if you love it then I’d say [name_u]Milo[/name_u] is useable. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like other o ending names - [name_u]Leo[/name_u], [name_m]Jago[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] or maybe [name_m]Miro[/name_m] (MEE-ro?)
Absolutely love [name_u]Finn[/name_u] with [name_f]Isla[/name_f], particularly [name_u]Finley[/name_u] / [name_u]Finlay[/name_u] nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u]
I understand what you mean with the similar sounds in [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_u]Milo[/name_u], I also find them difficult to say together. Have you considered [name_u]Miles[/name_u]? I find [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_u]Miles[/name_u] better suited.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_u]Finn[/name_u]! Some other names you may like: [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_u]Levi[/name_u], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u].
Sounds like you and I have similar taste in names!
For me the “I” sound in both names does trip me up a bit.
I love [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and it’s on my short list for our baby too!
[name_u]Remi[/name_u] is really sweet, but I prefer it with a y for a boy.
I think another short name with a different vowel sound would go great with [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. How about [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], or [name_m]Emil[/name_m]?
I think the sounds are different enough it wouldn’t be a huge deal. I personally prefer Finn/Finley to [name_u]Milo[/name_u], but both work with [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. If [name_u]Milo[/name_u] is the name I would still use it.
We have a Gwend0len (never goes by Gwen) & I@n. It has never been a problem for us. I don’t ever call both their names together though. If I did maybe I would feel differently. I will say I’m trying to avoid N endings from here on out (harder than I thought, as I apparently really like names that end in N), but it’s not because I trip over them. I don’t like how similar they sound, but I try to remember they won’t be known as a sibset their whole life.
If [name_f]Isla[/name_f] had been a boy, she would almost certainly have been a [name_u]Finn[/name_u]! Only issue is it’s insanely popular where we are and I already know at least 1 other Isla/Finn sibset, which is putting me off. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is also very common name, which I didn’t think would bother me at the time but actually does in hindsight!
