Sibling to Iris

We are looking for a great sibling names to go with [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], our two year old daughter.

We will need a name that can be pronounced easily in both English and Portuguese. Our current favorite boy name is [name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] (or [name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_m]Julian[/name_m]).

We’re having a harder time with girl names. So far, we kinda like [name_f]Lana[/name_f], [name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_f]Ami[/name_f] ([name_m]Ah[/name_m]-mee), and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Alda[/name_f] as a middle name (slightly strange, but would honor my paternal grandmother, [name_f]Walda[/name_f]).

Any interesting suggestions for a short-ish, unique girls name similar to those? Thanks!!

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m] would be fabulous together!

[name_f]Alba[/name_f]
[name_f]Vita[/name_f]
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphi[/name_f]
[name_f]Yara[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliska[/name_f]
[name_f]Orla[/name_f]

[name_f]Maren[/name_f]
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Polly[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Noemi[/name_f]
[name_f]Gaia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sukie[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]

[name_f]Flora[/name_f]/[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f]

[name_m]How[/name_m] about:

[name_f]Leonor[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]/[name_f]Silvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]/[name_f]Febe[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]

Great suggestions! I love [name_f]Willa[/name_f] SO much, but sadly it’s not easily pronounced in Portuguese. [name_f]Alba[/name_f] is another favorite of mine, and I like [name_f]Yara[/name_f] a lot, too. There is a mermaid figure from Brazilian mythology called [name_m]Iara[/name_m], which I imagine would sound a bit like [name_f]Yara[/name_f] in English (Ee-ah-dah in Portuguese). And [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] (like the sweet Spanish princess) is another name that’s a favorite of mine, but not my husband. I think it’s dreamy, go figure!!

Great ideas, thanks!

I love the above suggestions but thought I’d add [name_f]Lulu[/name_f]. [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] would be really cute together.

[name_f]Lulu[/name_f] is really sweet- we actually love [name_f]Lola[/name_f], and it’s so perfectly Brazilian, but our good friends beat us to it. I love short L names- [name_f]Lea[/name_f], [name_f]Lana[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] worry about them being too simple. Our favorite thing about [name_f]Iris[/name_f]'s name is it is both little girl-y and sassy/mature with its awesome meaning and origin. Perhaps I’m asking for the moon! Or… just a boy ”

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m] are mind-blowingly perfect together and seeing as they both work in Spanish they probably will work flawlessly in Portuguese. So in love with this pair!

From your girls’ list [name_f]Alda[/name_f] seems like she’ll work better in Portuguese and so would [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], though I don’t think [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] gives off the same calm and delicate vibe as [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m]. [name_f]Alda[/name_f] does. Which brings to mind:

[name_f]Alba[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurea[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Silvia[/name_f]
[name_f]Antonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Filomena[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Serena[/name_f]
[name_u]Vida[/name_u]
[name_f]Luz[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]/[name_f]Luzia[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]/[name_f]Dalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonor[/name_f]/[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] (a friend has a Brazilian niece with this name)
[name_f]Ana[/name_f]/[name_f]Anna[/name_f]/[name_f]Anita[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]

[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] is another of my long-time favorites- it reminds me of the gorgeous children’s books [name_m]Ernest[/name_m] and [name_f]Celestine[/name_f]. So beautiful. I’m glad [name_f]Alda[/name_f] is getting a thumbs up! I liked [name_f]Alba[/name_f]/[name_f]Alda[/name_f]/[name_u]Alva[/name_u] for a while now, and it struck me one day that [name_f]Alda[/name_f] would honor my grandmother so nicely! And those short L names… [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Lana[/name_f], [name_f]Lilou[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f]. They are so perfect for both languages. Thank you for the suggestions, and the further encouragement towards [name_f]Alda[/name_f]!

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m] sound great together. I really like the suggestion of [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. From your list I really like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. Here are some girl names that would sound great with [name_f]Iris[/name_f].

[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Plum[/name_f]
[name_f]Maple[/name_f]
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Petra[/name_f]
[name_f]Erin[/name_f]
[name_f]Priya[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
[name_f]Riona[/name_f]

I may be the odd one out here, but why not use [name_f]Walda[/name_f]? It would certainly meet your criteria for something that is unusual.

I think it could be cool, especially when paired with the right middle. Plus, there’s no better way to honor grandma than to actually name the baby after her, right?

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and:

[name_f]Walda[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Walda[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Walda[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Walda[/name_f] [name_f]Julia[/name_f]
