Siblings for Claudius?

Hey all  I’m writing a story and as usual, I’m having some trouble with naming :stuck_out_tongue: I really want to name one of the main boys [name_m]Claudius[/name_m], even though my character isn’t the antagonist, I do like the connection to [name_m]Hamlet[/name_m] plus it’s just a nice name haha. The parents are [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] and [name_f]Amanda[/name_f]…I really wanted [name_u]Gray[/name_u] for the sister but I worry that it’s too masculine? I don’t like boys’ names on girls and even though [name_u]Gray[/name_u] is unisex, I feel like it’s much more masculine than feminine. Does it sound okay? Oh and for another boy, I wanted a softer-sounding name and I really wanted [name_u]Jude[/name_u] but I feel like that doesn’t go with [name_m]Claudius[/name_m] at all.

Is [name_u]Gray[/name_u] okay for a girl? And in case I don’t go ahead with [name_u]Gray[/name_u], what would you name [name_m]Claudius[/name_m]’ sister? Also, any suggestions for a soft-sounding boys’ name? Thank you~

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] equinox!! I absolutely love the name [name_u]Gray[/name_u] for a girl!!! Although, it seems to be a different style than [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], [name_f]Amanda[/name_f], or [name_m]Claudius[/name_m]. To me it sounds a bit out of place. Unless the girl is adopted, I wouldn’t go with that one. Here’s some other names for her:
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] {[name_f]Liza[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f]}
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f]
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]
[name_f]Alena[/name_f]
[name_f]Elliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Mathilde[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f]Aster[/name_f]
[name_f]Danielle[/name_f] {[name_u]Dani[/name_u]}
[name_f]Abella[/name_f]
[name_f]Angelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_u]Lou[/name_u]

I think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] goes with [name_m]Claudius[/name_m] perfectly!! Go for it!!! But if you still don’t feel the connection, here are some soft boy’s names:
[name_u]Jay[/name_u]
[name_m]Liam[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_u]Beau[/name_u]
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] {[name_u]Ollie[/name_u]}
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]
[name_u]Finley[/name_u]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]

I like [name_m]Claudius[/name_m]. I think it’s fine that he’s not an antagonist, since it has already been done. You could subvert the antagonistic connotation by making him extremely kind and loyal, or something.

[name_u]Gray[/name_u] is nice for a girl, but I’m not sure if it goes well with [name_m]Claudius[/name_m]. Like the previous poster said, the two styles are very different.

I would suggest [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], which means “gray fighting maid” and has an older feel like [name_m]Claudius[/name_m].

[name_f]Griselda[/name_f] could work too. Gris is [name_m]French[/name_m] for gray, and the name means, “gray battle”. Plus, the name has strong literary ties, like [name_m]Claudius[/name_m]. [name_f]Griselle[/name_f] can be a more feminine take on the name.

Names similar to [name_u]Gray[/name_u] in sound ([name_u]Gray[/name_u] could be a nickname): I put a star next to my favourites
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] (I also saw the spelling [name_f]Grayce[/name_f])
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Gradie[/name_f] / [name_u]Grady[/name_u]
[name_f]Greer[/name_f]

[name_f]Allegra[/name_f]*
[name_f]Desiree[/name_f]
[name_f]Raina[/name_f] / [name_f]Rayna[/name_f]
[name_u]Reagan[/name_u]
[name_f]Rachel[/name_f]
[name_u]Ray[/name_u] / [name_u]Rey[/name_u]
[name_f]Ayla[/name_f]
[name_f]Adrienne[/name_f]

For the brother, [name_u]Jules[/name_u] or [name_m]Julian[/name_m] came to mind first. I’m avoiding [name_m]Julius[/name_m] because it is extremely similar to [name_m]Claudius[/name_m], though I do like the name.

Like [name_u]Gray[/name_u], [name_u]Jude[/name_u] could be a nickname. [name_m]Judas[/name_m] would have the same treacherous connotation and classic feel as [name_m]Claudius[/name_m].

Other soft-sounding boy names:
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Jason[/name_m] / [name_m]Jase[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] / [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] / [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]
[name_m]Jaron[/name_m]*
[name_m]Judd[/name_m]
[name_m]Justus[/name_m] / [name_u]Justice[/name_u]
[name_u]Jermaine[/name_u] / [name_u]Germaine[/name_u]
[name_m]Jerome[/name_m]
[name_m]Gerald[/name_m]* / [name_m]Gerard[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_u]Gene[/name_u]
[name_m]Elijah[/name_m]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_u]Bryce[/name_u] / [name_m]Bruce[/name_m]
[name_m]Cesar[/name_m] / [name_m]Caesar[/name_m]
[name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]*
[name_m]Cyril[/name_m] / [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]*

[name_f]Sib[/name_f]-sets I like:
[name_m]Claudius[/name_m], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], and [name_u]Jules[/name_u]
[name_m]Claudius[/name_m], [name_f]Allegra[/name_f], and [name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Claudius[/name_m], [name_f]Griselda[/name_f], and [name_m]Judas[/name_m]

I hope this is helpful! Good luck

I think [name_m]Claudius[/name_m] is a great name! It’s unique and unused, and will definitely stand out. [name_u]Gray[/name_u] is a good name as well, but not something I would use. With an unusual and well named brother, I think you would need something that would blend with him. Here are a few suggestions:
[name_f]Althea[/name_f]
[name_f]Pandora[/name_f]
[name_u]Sterling[/name_u]/[name_f]Starling[/name_f]
[name_u]Shiloh[/name_u]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
