I’m due in 5 weeks, and am struggling to find a boys name. We have a 1 and a half year old boy named [name_u]Merritt[/name_u], and currently love the name Truett if we have another boy. My question is, do the 2 names sound too similar? Does the double t ending to both names not work? Any advice is appreciated!
First I will say this: If you love it and it feels right, use it! People will keep their opinions to themselves once baby is born, and their opinions mean nothing in the grand scheme, anyhow
Now, personally, it is a little matchy for me, but not because of the “tt” ending - because of the vowel sound before the “tt.” The “itt” and “ett” sound very similar and that’s what pushes it for me. Something like [name_u]Alcott[/name_u], [name_m]Rhett[/name_m], [name_u]Brett[/name_u], [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m], or [name_m]Jett[/name_m] would all still use the “tt” ending but be phonetically different from [name_u]Merritt[/name_u].
It’s not the end of the world if they end if they both end in a tt. It’s definitely matchy. But… if you love both names, use don’t let a pittance thing stop you.
Who says having matchy names is a bad thing? If you love it, use it. If you try to find something else while you are still in love with the first name it could be a long hard frustrating road.
This! My only concern would be, if you have more children later on, it may be difficult to continue the pattern, and if you don’t, it may be odd having one child whose name doesn’t fit the theme. You’re matching not only the “tt”, but these are also both virtue names, so just something to keep in mind. If that doesn’t bother you, I say go for it. I love both names and think it’s a really nice theme.
