I have 3 children (Benton [name_m]Grover[/name_m], [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_u]Raven[/name_u] [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] Ann) and DH and I are TTC. We’d like to have up to 3 more kids and no, we most likely won’t be continuing the N ending theme. The last name is like “mantis” without the T. [name_f]My[/name_f] goal has been to come up with a list of boy names and a list of girl names to choose from once baby arrives. I’m set on the girl names, but there’s only one boy name I’m absolutely set on, [name_u]Jasper[/name_u].
[name_f]My[/name_f] girl list:
[name_u]Cleo[/name_u]
[name_f]Emerald[/name_f]
[name_f]Maple[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylva[/name_f]
[name_u]Truly[/name_u]
I do also really like [name_u]Forest[/name_u], but it’s meaning is so similar to [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] is definitely at the top of my girl list. Should I care about the meaning being similar? Especially if the meaning is a big part of why I love the names. The trees are my happy place.
[name_m]Silas[/name_m] is nice too, but I like [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] more. Especially with our last name. I guess these could be on the list for in case we don’t have a girl.
I also like [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], but I hate that it doesn’t have a nice meaning. [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] is cool too, but I go back and forth on whether it’s nice with our last name or cringey. [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] is nice, but my husband said, “like the coffee?” I go back and forth on [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]. I like the meaning and I like the names. I just don’t know I like them enough to actually use.
I know [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] is becoming more popular, but any other suggestions I’d like to be less popular, more like my existing kids’ names. I’d also prefer not to repeat initials, but at this point I’m open to hearing names you think would be perfect with my existing kids’ names, the girls’ names, and [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] even if they do repeat initials. Please throw some boy names my way! Thanks!

I love [name_u]Jasper[/name_u]! I’d be cautious around [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugh[/name_m], because with your last name it could sound a bit like ‘human’ (I have a friend with a really similar surname who was put off [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] for this reason).
Maybe…
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_u]Leo[/name_u]
[name_u]Ezra[/name_u]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Daire[/name_m]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_u]Finlay[/name_u]
[name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u]
[name_u]Halcyon[/name_u]
[name_u]Lennox[/name_u]
[name_m]Lysander[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]
[name_u]Sorrel[/name_u]

@benton_s_mama Congratulations, wishing you the very best!!
I really like [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] and have never heard of it before! I wouldn’t let it bother you that [name_u]Forest[/name_u] and [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] have similar meanings, especially if it’s an important one to you and it makes you happy. Plus, meanings are important to us, because we love names. But to those who don’t, it probably wouldn’t matter much. The baby may be asked what the meaning of their name is a few times, especially [name_f]Sylva[/name_f], as that is the more unique of the two names. But personally, I think it’s awesome that nature means so much to you that you’ve chosen to make it a part of all your children’s names!
I’ll start with boys’ names since your girls’ list is pretty much set:
[name_u]Finch[/name_u] (I don’t know if having two bird names bothers you, but I honestly thought of To Kill a Mockingbird first!)
[name_u]Harbor[/name_u] (I love this one for you!)
[name_u]Sorrel[/name_u]
[name_u]Storm[/name_u]
[name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] (because it’s a few letters off from the cypress tree, and I think it would sound cute with your other kids’ names without repeating initials.)
A few girls’ names I have thought of just for fun:
[name_f]Cassia[/name_f]
[name_f]Maya[/name_f] (I believe this means island and water in Spanish. I know it’s more popular than what you’re probably looking for, but I like it for you!)
[name_u]Sage[/name_u] (Popular again, but still a very sweet option.)
I hope this helps!

@persephonescrown [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is one I’ve considered previously. I do like it, but it’s like [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]. I’m not sure if I like it enough to use. I definitely prefer [name_u]Forest[/name_u] as far as an F beginning name. What do you think about [name_u]Forest[/name_u] with [name_f]Sylva[/name_f]? Too much?
I also really like [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m], [name_m]Lysander[/name_m] and [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u], but don’t want to use N ending names unless all of the next 3 children are going to be N ending and I’m not super fond of the R ending either with [name_u]Jasper[/name_u]. It feels like I’m starting another theme and I definitely don’t want to be stuck in another one of those.
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] is so cute, but my brother and sister in-law named their dog that.
@namenerddoglover thank you for your take on [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] and [name_u]Forest[/name_u] together. I do love me a nature name. [name_m]Benton[/name_m] means “town in the bent grass”, [name_m]Grover[/name_m] means “lives near a grove of trees”, [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] feels naturey because of the connection to elves and [name_m]Tolkien[/name_m], and [name_u]Raven[/name_u] and [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] are obviously naturey. [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] is the name of little town in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] near the Smoky Mountains where dh and I once considered moving. He was born near the Smoky Mountains, so it’s especially dear to him and I love the connection to the woods. [name_u]Forest[/name_u] I feel like is just more literal.
I do like [name_u]Storm[/name_u], [name_u]Sage[/name_u] and [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], but feel like the S sound beginning competes even more with [name_f]Sylva[/name_f]. [name_u]Finch[/name_u] is interesting! Not one I’ve considered.
Thank you!

@benton_s_mama What a sweet story about why you love [name_f]Sylva[/name_f].
I looked up the meaning of the name, but didn’t realize it was also a town in NC. I have family there and love the [name_u]Smokey[/name_u] Mountains! Thank you so much for sharing the story!
I can absolutely see where [name_u]Storm[/name_u], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], and [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] would compete with [name_f]Sylva[/name_f]. I’m not a fan of repeating initials either. I wasn’t sure if you were committed to naming a future little girl [name_f]Sylva[/name_f], or just this baby if it is a girl. I love S names, especially for girls, and can get a little carried away with them sometimes, my apologies!
I’m glad you like [name_u]Finch[/name_u]! This one was so much fun, thank you for your post!

I actually think it works really well, they’re not matchy in any other way and it’s a nice link between the siblings (as you said above, they’ve all got some kind of nature connection so that’s really lovely). Honestly I don’t think most people would notice the matching meaning anyway.
Looking at my boys list almost all of them have R or N endings, so perhaps I’m no help there
perhaps a different O ending would work since you like Indigo and sort of like Hugo… Apollo, Otto, Jago, Sholto …I’d suggested Cosmo but not sure it works with an M surname, and Viggo but it might be a bit themey with Arwen.

@persephonescrown I appreciate your thoughts on [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] and [name_u]Forest[/name_u] as siblings! That makes me feel better about using both of them.
[name_m]Otto[/name_m] and [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] are interesting! They’re going on my “names to ponder” list. Thanks!

What about [name_m]Hewitt[/name_m]? You could use the [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] nickname and it means “one who lives near a wood clearing”
