I vastly prefer [name_u]Sydney[/name_u].
From my experience, [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] = male and [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] = female
[name_u]Sydney[/name_u] for a girl, although I find it dated
[name_u]Sidney[/name_u] is 100% male, especially as similar era names are/have come back
Thank you.
I also prefer [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] for a girl
I share the same perception of [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] being a bit more feminine and [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] leaning masculine. If you look at the data, both spellings are more popular for girls (though neither spelling ranks for boys) with [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] being almost 900 spots ahead of [name_u]Sidney[/name_u].
But even disregarding the gender difference, [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] is much more popular, so I would just go with that for convenience.
definitely [name_u]Sydney[/name_u]! i love it!!
For me it’s less male and female but rather name and place. [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] is a person, while [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] is a place.
[name_u]Sydney[/name_u] for a girl. Great name!
[name_u]Sydney[/name_u] for a girl and [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] for a boy.
I voted for [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] as being in Australia, the connection to the city is very strong. I have also seen that [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] is more often used for a female, but I’ve never heard of anyone with the name in my lifetime. In fact, the only time I’ve personally seen this name in use here is on my GGGrandfather.
Agree that [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] seems male (and vintage) and [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] seems female (and modern/a place-name). If you like the [name_m]Sid[/name_m]- and want a more feminine alternative, though, there’s the [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_f]Sidonie[/name_f]. That and [name_f]Sidony[/name_f] are my favorite variants.
I prefer [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] on a girl and [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] on a boy too. The only [name_u]Sidney[/name_u]/[name_u]Sydney[/name_u] I’ve ever known in real life, though, was a female [name_u]Sidney[/name_u], so that spelling doesn’t feel totally masculine to me.
I’m also in Australia and connect [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] to the city, so I voted for [name_u]Sidney[/name_u].
I once had the cutest girl in my cabin at a summer camp called [name_u]Sidney[/name_u].
