Silar Gray

We just found out we are having a girl and we decided to name her Silar [name]Gray[/name]. If it was a boy it was going to be [name]Silas[/name] [name]Gray[/name]. Daddy’s middle name is [name]Gray[/name]. Anyway I wanted some honest opinions about this name. Thanks for your help!

Honestly, it gives me the impression that you’re upset you aren’t having a boy. What about [name]Isla[/name] [name]Gray[/name]?

I like the suggestion of [name]Isla[/name] [name]Gray[/name] for you! I am generally of the opinion that two unisex names is too many for a child. I like to see at least one gender descriptive name. If I saw Silar [name]Elizabeth[/name], I could say “Oh, it’s a girl”. Or [name]Thomas[/name] [name]Gray[/name] would tell me it’s a boy. Silar [name]Gray[/name] leaves me either confused or leaning toward boy.

Sorry I don’t like it. I first read it as [name]Silver[/name] [name]Gray[/name].

I don’t mind the sound. I’d advise against it though. A few reasons.

  1. While my first instinct was to pronounce it like [name]Silas[/name] but with a different ending sound, I don’t know that that’s always going to be obvious. I think you’ll get some [name]Sill[/name]-air, [name]Sill[/name]-ar, Siller, seeLAR (like Spanish [name]Pilar[/name]).
  2. This will also be misheard a lot. [name]Skyler[/name]?
  3. If you use this you rule out [name]Silas[/name] for a future boy. And [name]Gray[/name].
  4. Silar and [name]Silas[/name] seem such different styles.

I like the suggestion of [name]Isla[/name] although it also sort of rules out [name]Silas[/name]. [name]Grace[/name] somes to mind. [name]Gray[/name]'s sound with [name]Silas[/name]'s ending. [name]Silas[/name] and [name]Grace[/name] sound like siblings.

Another name that comes to mind with [name]Silas[/name] is [name]Abigail[/name].

I thought this was for a boy, and then my second thought was silver gray.

With [name]Gray[/name] as a middle (which is totes cool), I would go with a more feminine MN (JMO).

PS [name]Silas[/name] [name]Gray[/name] is all kinds of awesome.

I looove it  sounds cool with flair

Reminds me of the villain on Heroes, Sylar.

Sounds too much like [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Gray[/name] AKA Sylar, the murderous villain from Heroes. So not a great combo to me. Also, there might be some gender confusion, as both Silar and [name]Gray[/name] sound masculine.

I actually think [name]Silas[/name] [name]Gray[/name] would be cute on a girl, I love [name]Silas[/name] for both genders. Silar I think all boy. [name]Gray[/name] I adore on a girl.

Are you naming your baby after [name]Gabriel[/name] “Sylar” [name]Gray[/name]? If you are, I suppose there’s nothing wrong with that, he’s an interesting character; but it comes off as a little silly to me. Especially naming a girl after him.

  1. So you didn’t think of a girl name? It sounds like you had a boys name all planned out but nothing for a girl.
  2. Are you only planning on one child? What happens if you have a boy and you’ve already used your favorite name?

Silar [name]Gray[/name] sounds very masculine, which isn’t terrible. But in this case it sounds like a girl’s name is an afterthought

I honestly thought it was for a boy when I first saw it. I also think that if a unisex name is used, the other name should be gender definitive. I’m with others that it would be thought of as [name]Skylar[/name], as well. I don’t watch Heroes, so I hadn’t heard of him. So Silar sounds made-up to me, too.

I actually really like the suggestion of [name]Isla[/name], too.

Other suggestions:
[name]Silva[/name]
[name]Sylvia[/name]
[name]Sylvie[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Grace[/name] (when I thought of [name]Silas[/name] [name]Gray[/name], [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Grace[/name] came to mind as a sister first-and you could use [name]Silas[/name])

[name]Skylar[/name] was the first thing I read. [name]Even[/name] after re-reading and saying it out loud it still sounds like [name]Skylar[/name] to me. I think of [name]Skylar[/name] [name]Grey[/name] the singer.

I think Silar sounds like a boy too. [name]How[/name] about [name]Skyler[/name] instead? I think it sounds more attractive and it works for both genders. If you want a less popular spelling use [name]Schuyler[/name].

This, unfortunately.

The name itself feels repetative…Like I’ve heard it many times before. [name]Isla[/name] [name]Gray[/name] I much prefer.

I also immediately thought of the Sylar from Heroes who is a serial killer. Also, it does seem a bit masculine… and I like unisex names.

I like the suggestion of [name]Isla[/name] [name]Gray[/name]. That’s lovely.

I don’t care for it for a few reasons:

  1. It looks as if you misspelled the word “silver.”
  2. It seems invented.
  3. I think pronunciation would be a problem and people would probably mishear it as “[name]Skyler[/name].”
  4. It sounds masculine and the middle name does not help.

I suggest either [name]Sylvia[/name] or [name]Isla[/name].

[name]Don[/name]'t know if it was suggested, but maybe [name]Cilla[/name] [name]Grace[/name] or [name]Cilla[/name] [name]Gray[/name]?

It made me think of Sylar from Heroes right away, and I didn’t even realize that his last name was [name]Gray[/name] until someone else mentioned it in this thread. It also made me think of the singer, [name]Skylar[/name] [name]Grey[/name]. I love the idea of using [name]Grey[/name] as her middle name to honor her dad, but I’m really not loving Silar and I think that the combination Silar [name]Grey[/name] has too much pop culture baggage. Does [name]Silas[/name] / Silar honor someone?
