Silas rising?

Two years ago, [name]Silas[/name] was #1 on by boy’s list. Now that a boy is on the way, I find myself backing away from it. In 2009 it was #252, in 2010 #219, and 2011 #183. [name]How[/name] much higher will it go?

It seems that since it’s an unfamiliar name to most folks, they find it more memorable. Therefore, the name becomes associated with that one person. Unlike more common/traditional names like [name]Phillip[/name] and [name]Jonathan[/name] - where you know enough to not have the preset association.

[name]How[/name] many little Silases do you know? I don’t know any personally but I’ve heard about two.

I know one personally, age 5. He’s awesome.

There were nearly 2100 of them born last year, so it’s no longer the dusty unused biblical/pioneer classic it used to be.

I know of one…a girl I grew up with named her baby [name]Silas[/name]. He’s about 8ish months old now. I like the name…enough to have looked at the numbers on it and seriously consider it but I wasn’t in love w/it enough to overlook its rising.

That’s where I think I am. I don’t think I can use it knowing that the preschools will be littered with little Silases. DH sees no problem with that though, sigh. I love your name faves though! [name]Everett[/name] is our current middle name selection

I know one. I know very few small children, but the one I know is probably 2.

Yes, [name]Silas[/name] has entered the public consciousness in a big way, between Weeds and Heroes, etc. It’s a really cool name, and ughhhh, unfortunately, that’s how it works. It’s like a name catches/sparks, and then it spreads everywhere. ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT [name]FOREST[/name] FIRES.

I think if it stayed steady in the 100s, it wouldn’t be so bad. That’s few enough that it’s very likely the preschools won’t be littered. I’m not sure if [name]Silas[/name] has what it takes to break 100 rankings-wise.

I just told my sister that dh likes [name]Silas[/name]. She’s never heard the name and I had to repeat it and then spell it. You just never know. I guess I’ll leave it on the list and hope the perfect name still comes along (:

There is a new character on Vampire Diaries, named [name]Silas[/name], who is getting mentioned a lot now too.

I love the name [name]Silas[/name], it’s a great name. With any name you have to consider how much you really love it regardless of how popular it is because no matter which name you choose it is always possible that name could go from uncommon to popular.

My 2 year old son’s name is [name]Silas[/name]. I check the numbers every year and am disappointed to see how fast it’s rising. Still, many times when people ask me his name I get a weird look and they ask me where I came up with it, so I think it’s still relatively unique (at least in this area). Hopefully it will stall where it’s at and not break the top 100 anytime soon!

I love [name]Silas[/name]. It’s on our boys list as well. I know two [name]Silas[/name]'s, but that wouldn’t stop me form using the name. [name]Silas[/name] isn’t going to be the new [name]Mason[/name], so I think it’s safe to use it.
